Food Facility R&D Assistant

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented R&D Assistant to join our product development team. This position offers hands-on experience working alongside experienced formulators, production staff, and quality assurance professionals. It’s an excellent opportunity for a Food Science, Chemistry, or Nutrition student (or recent graduate) to gain real-world experience in a professional manufacturing environment.

Job Overview:

The R&D Assistant will support formulation, testing, and product development activities under the direction of the R&D Manager. This individual will assist in lab work, documentation, and coordination between the R&D, Quality, and Production departments.

The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about food science, enjoys hands-on lab work, and is eager to learn how nutritional products are developed from concept to commercial scale.

Key Responsibilities:

· Assist in formulation trials, product testing, and ingredient blending.

· Prepare and document sample batches for evaluation.

· Support stability studies, sensory evaluations, and ingredient compatibility testing.

· Maintain R&D lab organization, cleanliness, and ingredient inventory.

· Record all formula changes, weights, and results accurately.

· Assist with scale-up and pilot runs to transition formulas from lab to production.

· Collaborate with Quality Control on analytical testing and recordkeeping.

· Learn labeling and compliance basics related to dietary supplements and food powders.

Qualifications:

· Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, or Nutrition program.

· Strong interest in formulation, ingredient functionality, and product innovation.

· High attention to detail, particularly when handling measurements, weights, and ingredient documentation.

· Able to follow lab procedures and maintain accurate records of test batches and results.

· Comfortable communicating with vendors and suppliers to request samples or follow up on materials.

· Organized, reliable, and proactive—able to manage priorities and work independently when needed.

· Excellent communication and teamwork skills within a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
