Food Production Supervisor - Cleveland

The Correctional Food Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and managing food production operations in a correctional facility kitchen. This role ensures that all meals served to inmates meet nutritional, safety, and regulatory standards while managing food preparation, inventory, and staff. The position requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and knowledge of food safety protocols.

The position requires standing, walking, and bending throughout the entire work day and the ability to lift, stack, and maneuver objects that may weigh 30 to 50 pounds.

  • Food Preparation & Production:
    • Supervise the preparation and production of meals for inmates, ensuring they meet nutritional standards, portion sizes, and facility guidelines.
    • Ensure that all meals are prepared, cooked, and served in accordance with established menus and dietary requirements.
  • Staff Management:
    • Supervise, train, and evaluate food service staff, including cooks, kitchen aides, and other food production workers.
    • Assign tasks to staff based on skills, experience, and facility needs.
    • Ensure staff adheres to safety and sanitation protocols while working in the kitchen.
  • Inventory Control:
    • Monitor inventory levels of food and kitchen supplies, ensuring appropriate stock levels and ordering supplies as necessary.
    • Maintain accurate records of food purchases, usage, and waste to ensure budget compliance.
  • Food Safety & Sanitation:
    • Enforce and uphold all food safety regulations, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local health codes.
    • Oversee the proper cleaning and sanitizing of kitchen equipment, food storage areas, and dining areas.
    • Ensure that food is stored and prepared at the proper temperatures and that kitchen equipment is maintained in safe working condition.
  • Meal Distribution:
    • Oversee the accurate portioning and timely distribution of meals to inmates, ensuring that all dietary restrictions and special needs are met.
    • Coordinate meal times and ensure efficient use of kitchen resources to serve meals in a timely manner.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
    • Maintain records related to food production, staffing, inventory, and food safety inspections.
    • Report any issues regarding food quality, equipment malfunctions, or safety concerns to the appropriate authorities.
  • Compliance and Safety:
    • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, including workplace safety standards for kitchen employees.
    • Work with the facility management to address any issues related to food service operations.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $14.00 - $17.00 per hour

  • Education & Experience:
    • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree in Culinary Arts, Food Service Management, or related field preferred.
    • At least 2-3 years of experience in food service, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role.
    • Previous experience in a correctional food service environment is highly desirable.
  • Certifications (preferred but not required):
    • ServSafe Food Safety Certification or equivalent.
    • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Knowledge & Skills:
    • Knowledge of food safety practices and sanitation standards.
    • Ability to supervise and motivate a team.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Ability to handle stress and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
