Food Safety Lab Technician

We are seeking a detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to join our Food Safety team. This position is responsible for monitoring and testing all mechanically separated and ground turkey products to ensure compliance with customer requirements, USDA regulations, and company standards.

The ideal candidate will have strong critical-thinking skills, the ability to safely handle chemicals, and proficiency with standard laboratory techniques in a highly sensitive environment. Competency with computers—including Microsoft Office—is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect MST (mechanically separated turkey) product samples
  • Collect ground meat product samples
  • Perform bone sinew testing on ground and MST products
  • Conduct calcium titration on MST products
  • Operate a FOSS NIR instrument to measure moisture, fat, protein, and calcium
  • Collect blood samples as needed
  • Prepare samples for third-party laboratory testing
  • Conduct weekly inventory of laboratory supplies
  • Report bone and calcium testing results to Production and Food Safety teams
  • Enter data accurately into Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Tag out products that do not meet specification limits
  • Apply basic HACCP concepts in daily work
  • Complete pre-shipment reviews in alignment with the HACCP program
  • Assist Food Safety team members as needed
  • Calibrate laboratory equipment, including pH meters, balances, and liquid dispensers

Qualifications

  • Fluent in English with strong reading and writing abilities
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to safely handle chemicals and follow proper lab protocols
  • Experience with laboratory equipment and standard testing procedures
  • General computer knowledge; proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, regulated environment
  • Comfortable collecting samples on the production floor
