Food Wholesale Delivery Driver

Job purpose

The Wholesale Delivery Driver delivers fresh and frozen food directly to Yellowbird Foodshed wholesale customers, restaurants, food service accounts, and stores in central Ohio primarily the greater Columbus area, and reports to the Operations Manager.

Duties and responsibilities

Warehouse Delivery Driver duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Distribute our food products in a timely and efficient manner assuring that quality and food safety are maintained throughout the process.
• Represent our company in a professional and cost-effective manner to drive profitability and customer satisfaction.
• Deliver a wide variety of perishable food items to neighborhoods in and around Columbus, and on dynamic routes.
• Follow routes and time schedule using driving app
• Load, unload, prepare, inspect and operate a wide varieties of refrigerated delivery vehicles
• Interact with customers handling requests and inquires in courteous and effective manner.
• Complete logs and reports
• Follow DOT and traffic safety regulations and standards
• Routinely pick-up products from producers and to work occassionally in warehouse coolers and freezers assisting warehouse workers as needed

Qualifications

• Proven working experience (as a Delivery Driver a big plus)
• 21 years of age and a clean driving record for 5 years
• Ability to operate refrigerated trucks, including 26' box, and vans in a variety of weather and traffic conditions
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Desire to maintain a good driving record with no traffic violations
• High ethical standards
• Attention to details and be able to solve problems independently
• Possess good communication skills
• Exhibit patience and have an upbeat demeanor
• Must be willing to be flexible and adapt to an ever-changing environment
• Be self-motivated and self-directed to achieve goals and maintain schedule
• Have an interest in locally produced and healthy food

Working conditions

Refrigerated company vehicles are provided.

The nature of the work at Yellowbird Foodshed is seasonal: from mid-spring to Thanksgiving, the workload is heavier and the work-days are longer, often requiring overtime. During the winter months, workload is lighter but ongoing- no layoffs. The position is full-time and currently scheduled as Tuesday through Thursday, approximately 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with some Mondays, Fridays, and Saturdays possible (shift hours and days vary slightly from week to week and flex seasonally).

Physical requirements

Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and to get in and out of vehicles scores of times during a shift, physically handling products and carrying them to customers’ doors.
