FORENSIC INTERVIEW

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Forensic Interviewer position is a part-time employee of the Child Abuse Council of Muskegon County. Days worked are Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8:30am-5:00pm. The Forensic Interviewer is responsible for providing developmentally sensitive, culturally appropriate, legally defensible forensic interviews of children and adolescents when an allegation of abuse has been made or a traumatic event has been witnessed. The Forensic Interviewer conducts these digitally recorded interviews at the request of, and in consultation with, Law Enforcement and Child Protective Services. In addition to other requested activities, the Forensic Interviewer participates in monthly Multidisciplinary (MDT) case reviews; regularly takes part in peer review; responds to subpoenas and testifies upon request. The Forensic Interviewer reports to the Forensic Services Supervisor, but works as a team with other Advocacy Center staff who share the responsibility of ensuring the mission of the Child Abuse Council of Muskegon County is carried out according to applicable professional, ethical, and legal standards.

As part of his/her ongoing responsibilities, the Forensic Interviewer will:

● Be trained in the State of Michigan forensic interviewing protocol and will keep themselves up to date on the latest techniques for interviewing children.

● Conduct sensitive and thorough forensic interviews using the State of Michigan forensic interviewing protocol with alleged victims of child abuse.

● Complete necessary documentation regarding interviews that meets expectations.

● Testify in criminal and/or family court.

● Be familiar with Children’s Advocacy Center interview policies and procedures.

● Foster an environment that is sensitive to a child’s cognitive, emotional and psychological development.

● Effectively work with others in a team environment and maintain composure in high stress situations.

● Demonstrate professionalism and excellent interpersonal skills with clients, co-workers, and MDT members.

Job Requirements

Certification in the Forensic Interviewing Protocol for the State of Michigan required (training provided). Timely, detailed, concise documentation abilities required. Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills required. Knowledge of the dynamics of child abuse and child development is needed, as well as the ability to engage children of all ages in an interview-type setting. Ability to cope in highly intense situations and conduct oneself in a professional manner. Fluency in Spanish or other foreign language preferred. Position involves interviewing child and adolescents of abuse, working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team (i.e. law enforcement, CPS, medical staff, therapists, prosecution), and testifying in court about abuse and trauma.

Pay: $30.00 per hour
