Forklift Operator

Summary of Position:

Drives propane powered forklift to Transport, raw materials to production equipment, warehouses and disposes of waste by performing the following duties efficiently and safely.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Drives forklift safely and efficiently following all work rules and safe operating procedures.
• Operates scanners for moving items to and from production areas, transport finished goods from Moulders to shipping
• Assist all other forklift drivers when time permits and be the backup for them when absent.
• Planning and organizing warehouse space to accommodate inventories such as raw lumber sorting out wood species, thickness and lengths. Pick up all 4x4’s and close warehouse doors at the end of shift.
• Communicate effectively with scheduling office, management and co-workers.
• Operate a forklift indoors / outdoors driving at safe speeds in all weather conditions and under spaces constraints. Stacking material in warehouses in a proper fashion.
• Assumes full responsibility for maintaining quality and minimize the damage to Moulder ready blank during the transporting process, loading and unloading Moulders.
• Transports waste for disposal and to rework process.
• Performs stacking functions, stacking Moulder ready blank bundles and other staged bundles.
• Sorts out and organizes raw materials meeting the requirements of manufacturing production schedules and other process, such as lumber species, blank thickness, widths and lengths.
• Performs banding functions securing bundles if not banded tight or if bands are broke.
• Performs reading and writing functions, interpreting documents such as Moulder run sheets, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, schedules, and scanning all stacks that are moved to keep an accurate inventory.
• Inspects and reports all inaccuracies and damage of Moulder ready blank to Supervisor.
• Housekeeping functions such as maintaining a clean forklift and warehouse area and keeping service doors / overhead doors clear at all times.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months forklift operating experience and/or training.
• Forklift certification preferred.
• Good safety record.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, drive and climb up and down off forklift. Occasionally walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
• Ability to operate forklift safely and determine when maintenance is needed.
• Ability to operate Scanner for moving Moulder Ready Blank and all other inventory.
• Be able to work, independently prioritize keeping material in front of Moulders.
• Have good communication skills.
• Self-motivated, quality conscious, positive attitude and opportunistic.
• Must have Good attendance.
• The ability to work overtime when additional hours and production are required
• Basic math skills: add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
• Possess strong mechanical aptitude and able to use hand tools, read production schedules, scanners, equipment and safety manuals and able to read measuring instruments.
• Able to fill out Forklift daily safety check list.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
