Formulation Scientist, Product Development

This position is responsible for product development from formulation to launch; includes ingredient qualification, compatibility, vendor and contract manufacturer evaluation.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Initiate and guide new ingredients through the qualification process with suppliers and manufacturers.
  • Work closely with Discovery Research partners to assure all ingredients are qualified and approved on a timely basis
  • Assess and develop new nutraceutical ingredients, product formulations, delivery forms and technology platforms
  • Assess and vet new product opportunities to determine viability, dosage, regulatory compliance, and scientific validation
  • Analyze and evaluate clinical and laboratory research as it applies to the formulation and delivery of new and existing products
  • Establish and maintains relationships with suppliers and contract manufacturers
  • Research competition and stay abreast of industry developments and trends; complete competitive analysis/pricing
  • Collaborate with key internal partners (e.g. Purchasing and QA/QC) to source ingredients
    for new formulas
  • Evaluate potential ingredients and formulas for manufacturability; evaluate new and existing raw materials for functionality and stability
  • Manage product launch and follow through to ensure meeting deadlines
  • Write technical and marketing support documents as appropriate
  • Review internal documents for consistency and accuracy (ads, articles, all marketing pieces, product directory, etc.) as appropriate
  • Research and respond to elevated customer issues involving product and ingredient questions/concerns; provide timely responses
  • Collaborate with cross-functional groups including Marketing, Magazine, Scientific Development, Business Development, Legal, Customer Service, Purchasing, and QA/QC
  • Create product concept presentations; formally present to executive/ownership level
  • Review magazine and launch articles
  • 2 onsite days per week is an essential function of this position
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Science or related field; advanced education (Master's / PhD) strongly preferred
  • 3+ years dietary supplement experience; 2+ years product development experience
  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written
  • Proficient in MS Office
