Founding Business Development & Strategy

Company:

Buildfunctions provides a simple solution to serverless computing, enabling developers to build, deploy, and scale serverless functions, hardware-isolated sandboxes, and runtime controls for agents at a rapid pace — all without worrying about infrastructure or servers.

Role:

We are seeking a visionary Founding Business Development & Strategy leader to join our team and help drive enterprise sales, fundraising, strategic partnerships, and commercial growth alongside the CEO as we build the future of infrastructure for AI agents.

This is an equity-based role, with the potential for a salary upon successful fundraising.

This is not a traditional business development or cloud sales role. Buildfunctions is an SDK-first developer platform for teams building AI agents, and our customers are highly technical. They evaluate the product through documentation, architecture decisions, developer workflows, and hands-on validation. The right candidate is comfortable working credibly with technical buyers, understanding product behavior and system design at a high level, and translating complex technical differentiation into compelling customer, partner, and investor narratives.

Responsibilities:

  • Own business development and strategic growth initiatives alongside the CEO, including enterprise sales, fundraising support, strategic partnerships, and market expansion.
  • Help shape Buildfunctions’ go-to-market strategy, including target customers, design-partner strategy, core use cases, and category positioning around infrastructure for AI agents.
  • Build and manage relationships with enterprise customers, design partners, investors, ecosystem partners, and other high-value external stakeholders.
  • Support fundraising efforts through investor research, relationship development, pitch delivery, pitch refinement, narrative development, and coordination across the fundraising process.
  • Develop and drive the company’s early enterprise sales motion, from outbound and introductions through qualification, technical-commercial discussions, proposals, and closing.
  • Identify and structure strategic partnerships across the AI ecosystem that can accelerate growth and distribution.
  • Work closely with the CEO to translate Buildfunctions’ technical differentiation into clear customer, partner, and investor value.
  • Help refine the company’s business model and strategic direction through customer feedback, market insight, and competitive analysis.
  • Represent Buildfunctions externally across customer conversations, investor meetings, partnership discussions, and industry events.
  • Help establish repeatable commercial processes and lay the groundwork for future sales, partnerships, finance, and growth hires.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in business development, strategy, partnerships, enterprise sales, fundraising, or founder-led go-to-market work at an early-stage startup, ideally in AI infrastructure, developer tools, cloud infrastructure, security, or enterprise software.
  • Strong track record of building high-value relationships and turning them into tangible business outcomes across customers, partners, or investors.
  • Ability to understand and communicate highly technical products, translating complex architecture and product capabilities into clear business value.
  • Experience supporting or leading fundraising processes, including investor conversations, pitch development, market narrative refinement, and process management.
  • Strong commercial judgment across enterprise sales, pricing, market selection, partnership strategy, and category development.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity and helping define the role, the go-to-market motion, and strategic priorities in an early-stage environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build trust quickly across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • High ownership, strong judgment, and a founder-like mentality, with the ability to work closely with technical team members while independently driving external momentum.
  • Strong network across AI, cloud, developer tools, startup, or investor ecosystems is a plus.
  • Prior experience as a founder, early business hire, investor-facing operator, or strategic partnerships leader is strongly preferred.

Industry Insight:

AI and machine learning are advancing rapidly, but as agents become more autonomous, the bottleneck is shifting from model capability alone to security, control, and production-ready infrastructure. Increasingly, the market recognizes that progress will depend not just on model intelligence, but on the systems that make agents safe, observable, and reliable in real-world environments. We are looking for someone ready to move quickly and help Buildfunctions seize this opportunity as the world evolves toward secure agent infrastructure.

Compensation:

Equity stake based on experience, contributions, and other factors, with details shared during interviews. Salaried positions are expected once funding is secured.
