Freelance Code Signage Designer (Remote)

W9 Consulting | $35–$50 per hour (based on experience)

We are a signage design–build studio seeking a freelance Code Signage Designer to support our team on a project basis. This role focuses specifically on creating sign location plans and developing code-compliant sign layouts for commercial interior environments.

Responsibilities

• Prepare code signage sign location plans based on architectural backgrounds and project requirements
• Develop detailed code sign layout drawings (room IDs, egress, ADA, life safety, etc.)
• Coordinate signage with floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, and interior elevations
• Apply ADA, IBC, and local code requirements to signage programs
• Organize drawing sets for client review, pricing, and fabrication
• Revise drawings in response to team and client markups

Qualifications

• Proven experience producing code signage / wayfinding drawing packages
• Strong proficiency in Adobe Illustrator
• Ability to read and work from architectural drawing sets
• Solid understanding of ADA and life-safety signage standards
• Highly detail-oriented and able to follow established graphic and layer standards
• Comfortable working remotely and meeting deadlines

Big Plus

• Familiarity with New York, California, and Florida code signage requirements

Engagement Details

• Remote, freelance / project-based
• W9 independent contractor engagement
• Flexible hours based on workload
• $35–$50/hour depending on experience and speed/accuracy
