Freelance Fiber Arts Pattern Designer (Crochet, Knitting, Tunisian Crochet)

Knitpal is seeking a Freelance Fiber Arts Pattern Designer (Crochet, Knitting, and/or Tunisian Crochet) to create clear, beginner-friendly patterns for yarn kits sold on Amazon.

This role focuses on writing well-structured, easy-to-follow patterns designed for customers who know basic stitches but need clear guidance to successfully complete a project. We are looking for designers who can produce patterns that are technically accurate, consistent, and ready for production.

This is a freelance, project-based role. Compensation is paid per pattern/design. (Hourly range listed is for platform requirements only.)

Responsibilities

- Develop original crochet, knitting, or Tunisian crochet patterns from concept to final written pattern

- Write clear, structured, beginner-friendly instructions with consistent formatting

- Include stitch counts, gauge, sizing, and all necessary technical details

- Ensure patterns are easy to follow with minimal interpretation required

- Revise patterns based on feedback to meet Knitpal’s quality and clarity standards

Requirements

- Proven experience writing and publishing crochet, knitting, or Tunisian crochet patterns

- Ability to produce complete, professional pattern PDFs (not just project ideas or photos)

- Strong understanding of pattern structure, including stitch counts, repeats, and gauge

- Experience writing patterns for beginner or easy-level projects

- Familiarity with and ability to follow standard pattern formatting and abbreviations (e.g., Craft Yarn Council standards)

- High attention to detail and consistency in formatting and instructions

- Patterns must include stitch counts, gauge, and clear formatting

- Links to portfolio, website, or shop (if available)

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
