Freelance Graphic Designer

Job Summary
Opportunity for a Graphic Designer (student/intern/ recent graduate/free-lancer) to transform a WWII Memoir manuscript into print-ready format. The designer must be dedicated to completing the project in a timely manner and with exemplary results.

The manuscript was produced in PowerPoint. It is 375 slides in length, and contains 1,000+ photos and/or graphics, which include more than 500 original photos.

This role offers the flexibility to work remotely while collaborating with the author to optimize design and visual storytelling. The ideal candidate is passionate about visual communication, highly skilled in digital art and graphic design tools, and eager to craft compelling design that brings the Skylighters story to life.

This project can be structured as an internship for credit or simply as an income opportunity.

Responsibilities

• Develop an innovative visual concept for this unique and historically significant memoir.
• Create and refine illustrations, and other graphic assets using industry-standard software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
• Collaborate with client to understand project goals, target audiences, and storyline for consistent visual identity and readability.
• Manage digital design project from concept through production, ensuring high-quality print-ready output.
• Apply principles of color management, typography, layout design, and visual hierarchy to produce aesthetically pleasing and effective product.
• Assist in photo manipulation and digital art creation, as needed for this unique and meaningful project.

Skills

• Proficiency in graphic design software including Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
• Strong understanding of color theory, typography, and layout design.
• Ability to produce digital art and illustrations, and expertise in photo manipulation is advantageous.
• Familiarity with printing production process for traditional hardback books.
