Freelance Interior Designer / Installation Specialist or Lead (Travel-Based Projects)

We are an Atlanta-based boutique interior design studio seeking experienced designers to join our extended team for project-based installation work across the U.S. This role is ideal for someone who enjoy hands-on execution and the fast-paced energy of bringing commercial spaces to life. You’ll work alongside our core team on a per-project basis, stepping in during the final and most critical phase—installation, ensuring each project is delivered with precision, efficiency, and design integrity. This is an ideal role if you’re looking to supplement your current design work with well-organized, high-impact projects—without the need for long-term commitments.

Scope of Work

• Read and interpret floor plans with ease
• Navigate SketchUp and/or AutoCAD files and accurately extract dimensions
• Manage and support on-site commercial installations, including:
• Checking in deliveries against master inventory lists during unloads
• Directing installation crews using detailed design documents
• Overseeing product placement and making real-time adjustments to align with the design vision
• Styling and placing accessories throughout the space
• Coordinating art installation using elevation drawings
• Documenting damages and providing clear daily reports to the lead designer

Requirements

• Proven experience managing commercial installation projects
• Strong communication and leadership skills on-site
• Ability to problem-solve quickly and adapt in the field
• High attention to detail and accountability
• Comfort working independently while collaborating with a remote team

Compensation & Travel Logistics

• $2,000 per installation (3-day install + travel time)
• All travel arranged and covered in advance (flights, accommodations, rental cars within budget)
• Gas reimbursed
• Per diem provided for meals and personal expenses
• Project-related purchases reimbursed within 2 weeks

Project Timeline

• Installations scheduled for Spring/Summer 2027
• Teams of 2 per installation
• Opportunity for multiple back-to-back projects (up to 12)
• If schedules align, selected freelancers may participate in an expenses paid training session in May/June 2026
