Freelance Litigation Attorney (1099 / Part-Time) – Federal District Court (D.C.)

Overview
Praetorian Law PLLC is seeking a freelance litigation attorney who is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia (or could be admitted without difficulty) to represent clients in new and ongoing litigation, to be the primary point of contact with opposing counsel, to prepare legal research, to prepare legal pleadings, to file legal pleadings to include motions, to prepare discovery requests, to prepare discovery responses, to manage and track deadlines and ensure they are met, and to perform all the related tasks as the attorney of record.

Duties

  • Manage and oversee litigation cases filed in federal district courts, ensuring compliance with procedural rules and deadlines
  • Conduct comprehensive legal research using tools such as LexisNexis and Westlaw to support case development
  • Draft, review, and revise legal documents including pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery requests with precision and clarity
  • Assist in preparing for depositions, hearings, and trials by organizing evidence and developing case strategies
  • Negotiate settlements and facilitate communication between parties to resolve disputes efficiently
  • Maintain detailed case files, track case progress, and update clients on case developments regularly
  • Collaborate with clients, co-counsel, and experts to gather pertinent information and strengthen legal positions

Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of federal district court procedures and litigation practices
  • Proficiency in legal research platforms such as LexisNexis and Westlaw for comprehensive case law analysis
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to craft clear, persuasive legal documents and arguments
  • Experience in diverse practice areas including estate planning, environmental law, immigration law, landlord-tenant law, family law, securities law, workers' compensation law, personal injury law, tribal law & regulations, patent law
  • Skilled in negotiation tactics to facilitate dispute resolution outside of court when appropriate
  • Legal drafting expertise with attention to detail for pleadings, discovery requests, motions, and briefs
  • Familiarity with legal administrative processes within a law office setting
  • Ability to conduct thorough legal research and synthesize findings effectively
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple cases simultaneously while adhering to deadlines
