Freelance Shopify Developer

ViralChilly is a growth-focused digital agency working with clients in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia. We regularly build conversion-optimized Shopify stores as part of our web, SEO, and paid ads offerings.

We’re looking for a Freelance Shopify Developer who can independently build Shopify websites from scratch, handle customizations confidently, and deliver production-ready stores on time.

This is not a “theme installer” role. We’re looking for someone who understands Shopify architecture, performance, and real-world ecommerce needs.

Role Overview

As a Freelance Shopify Developer, you’ll work on project-based Shopify builds — from initial setup to launch. You’ll collaborate with our designers and marketers, but you’ll be expected to own the development completely.

Key Responsibilities

• Build Shopify stores from scratch or deeply customize existing themes
• Convert Figma designs or reference websites into pixel-perfect Shopify stores
• Develop custom sections, templates, and snippets using Shopify Liquid
• Ensure mobile-first, responsive, and fast-loading builds
• Optimize storefronts for SEO readiness and Core Web Vitals
• Integrate and configure essential Shopify apps (reviews, subscriptions, upsells, tracking, etc.)
• Implement GA4, Meta Pixel, Google Tag Manager, and e-commerce tracking
• Debug issues independently and deliver clean fixes
• Prepare stores for launch and handle go-live support
• Provide clean handoff with basic documentation when needed

Required Skills & Competencies

• Technical Skills
• Strong hands-on experience with Shopify Liquid, theme structure, and sections
• Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript
• Experience creating reusable, scalable Shopify components
• Solid understanding of Shopify limitations and best-practice workarounds
• Familiarity with popular Shopify apps and performance implications

Performance & SEO Awareness

• Experience optimizing Shopify stores for speed and performance
• Understanding of Shopify SEO fundamentals (URLs, meta tags, schema basics, structure)
• Ability to build SEO-friendly layouts
