Freelance Technical Designer

Tharanco Group is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Freelance Technical Designer to support our Nick Graham Brand team in creating high-quality garments from concept to production. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in apparel construction, pattern making, fit evaluation, and will work closely with design, product development, and manufacturing teams.

This position will be on-site 2 days a week in our New York City office.

Tharanco Group designs, sources, and sells Men’s (Golf Apparel, Dress Shirts, Active/Outdoor Apparel) and Women’s (Dresses, Sweater & Knit Tops) apparel to major retailers and boutiques/pro-shops in the US and through its own Direct to Consumer channels (Ecommerce & Retail Stores). Tharanco Group Inc. has been in the Apparel Business since 1988 and has several operating divisions with offices in NYC, Secaucus NJ, and Canton MA, and 19 Retail Stores.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain detailed technical packages (tech packs) including construction details, measurements, BOMs, and spec sheets.
  • Collaborate with designers to translate creative concepts into technically feasible products.
  • Develop and review garment specs, ensuring accuracy for initial prototypes, fit samples, and production.
  • Conduct fit sessions in-person, document feedback, and make fit corrections accordingly.
  • Communicate with overseas factories or vendors regarding specs, construction methods, and sample corrections.
  • Maintain consistent fit and quality standards across categories.
  • Use software such as Adobe Illustrator, Excel, Unique PLM for creating tech pack and updates.

Experience Needed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Technical Design or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience as a Technical Designer in the garment/apparel industry.
  • Strong knowledge of garment construction, grading, and pattern making.
  • Experience working with offshore factories and understanding of production timelines.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Excel, and technical spec software (e.g., PLM, Browzwear is a plus).
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in a specific category (e.g., womenswear, menswear, activewear, denim, children’s wear).
  • Familiarity with BZW- 3D garment visualization tools.
  • Experience working with sustainable materials or production methods.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $40.00 - $50.00 per hour

Expected hours: 16 per week
