Freelance Video Editor Needed – Documentary TV Series

Location: Southern California

Contract (1099) – Project Based

Compensation: Full Project Bid (Negotiated)

About the Show:

An Emmy-nominated, nationally distributed agricultural television series reaching broadcast and digital audiences across the United States. The show highlights real farmers solving real challenges using proven tools, equipment, and modern agricultural practices.

We are currently producing Season 4 (10 episodes) and are seeking a skilled freelance video editor to help shape the storytelling, pacing, and energy of the series.

Project Scope:

  • Edit 10 full-length television episodes
  • Work from multi-day farm shoots (footage provided via hard drive)
  • Shape narrative arcs from real-world agricultural operations
  • Incorporate graphics, lower thirds, sponsor integrations, and light motion elements
  • Collaborate with producer on revisions and creative direction
  • Deliver broadcast-ready final cuts to networks
  • Create social media cutdowns from episodes for digital platforms
  • Export and prepare deliverables for broadcast and digital distribution
  • Coordinate with network stakeholders on final revisions and delivery specs

***Episodes are edited sequentially with defined delivery milestones and review rounds.

***Due to large media file sizes and RAID-based workflows, editor must be able to work locally in Southern California for initial onboarding and media transfers

Ideal Candidate:

  • 3+ years professional editing experience (television, documentary, branded content, or similar)
  • Strong storytelling instincts — able to shape unscripted content into compelling narratives
  • Comfortable working with large volumes of footage
  • Experience delivering for broadcast standards preferred
  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • Able to manage deadlines across multiple episodes
  • Efficient and decisive — able to move projects forward while maintaining quality
  • Strong ability to elevate interview-driven content through pacing, music selection, dynamic b-roll integration, and thoughtful storytelling
  • Experience browsing and pairing licensed music catalogs
  • Basic audio mixing, sound design, audio syncing, and dialogue editing
  • Familiarity with the agricultural industry a plus (not required)
  • Experience integrating branded product placement tastefully within content
  • Based in Southern California for media transfers and RAID pickups
  • Open to hiring multiple editors, or you can use your own assistant editors

***Editing will be performed remote at your own studio/workspace once media has been transferred

Software:

  • Adobe Premiere Pro (Adobe Creative Cloud) preferred
  • Basic motion graphics experience (After Effects a plus)

Compensation:

  • 1099 freelance project-based compensation
  • Editor will submit a bid for the full scope of 10 episodes
  • Rate dependent on experience
  • Timeline and episode delivery schedule will be discussed during interview
