In 2026, we are expanding our contributor network and seeking talented freelance writers and editors to help us deliver groundbreaking, impactful storytelling across a wide range of topics.

Position Overview

BlackDoctor.org is seeking experienced freelance writers and editors to produce high-quality, engaging, and culturally-informed content. Ideal candidates have a background in journalism, health communication, science writing, or SEO-driven digital storytelling.

Writers may contribute to consumer health articles, lifestyle content, physician-to-physician materials, clinical trial education, personal patient narratives, and more.

Key Responsibilities

• Write clear, accurate, culturally relevant content on assigned health and lifestyle topics
• Translate complex medical and scientific information into accessible, engaging language
• Pitch timely and evergreen story ideas aligned with BDO’s editorial goals
• Conduct interviews with medical experts, patients, and subject-matter specialists when needed
• Incorporate SEO best practices into all content
• Meet deadlines and revise content based on editorial feedback
• Collaborate with editors to ensure accuracy and alignment with BDO’s voice and standards

Content Areas May Include

• Health conditions & chronic disease
• Lifestyle & wellness (fitness, nutrition, mental health, relationships, finances, culture)
• Physician-to-physician medical content (professional audience)
• Clinical trials, breakthroughs, and health equity
• Personal patient stories and real-life experiences
• General health news and emerging medical trends

Qualifications

• Proven writing or editing experience (3–5 published clips required)
• Background in health, science, lifestyle, or medical writing preferred
• Experience writing for Black audiences or multicultural platforms is a plus
• Strong research, interviewing, and fact-checking skills
• Ability to write with empathy, accuracy, and cultural nuance
• Working knowledge of SEO
• Reliable communication and ability to meet deadlines
