Position Summary
The Transportation Freight Pay & Claims Coordinator is responsible for auditing, processing, and reconciling freight invoices and managing transportation-related claims for a liquid chemical manufacturing and distribution company serving the construction industry. This role ensures accurate freight payment, cost control, contract compliance, and timely resolution of carrier claims involving bulk liquid shipments (tank trucks, ISO tanks, totes, and drums). This role will report the Senior Manager – Transportation. This role will be part of the team supporting all bulk and LTL transportation planning for in bound and out bound goods movement.
Key Responsibilities- Freight Invoice Audit & Payment

Audit and validate carrier freight invoices against contracts, rate agreements, bills of lading, and delivery documentation.

Verify accessorial charges (demurrage, detention, layover, pump charges, hazmat fees, fuel surcharges).

Identify discrepancies and coordinate resolution with carriers and internal logistics team.

Process approved invoices in ERP/TMS systems and ensure timely payment.

Reconcile freight accruals and assist accounting with month-end close.
Key Responsibilities - Transportation Claims Management

Investigate and process freight-related claims including:

Product loss or contamination (bulk liquid chemicals)

Damaged totes, drums, or tankers
-
Shortages/overages
-
Delivery delays or service failures
-
Coordinate documentation (BOLs, PODs, photos, inspection reports, COAs).

File claims with carriers in accordance with contractual and regulatory requirements.

Track claim status and ensure timely recovery of funds.
Key Responsibilities - Carrier & Contract Administration

Maintain freight rate tables and carrier agreements.

Monitor carrier performance metrics (on-time delivery, claims ratio, cost variances).

Assist in freight bid preparation and rate comparisons.

Support contract compliance, especially related to hazardous materials transportation.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
-
Associate or bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Logistics, Business, Accounting, or related field preferred.

Minimum 2–5 years of experience in freight audit, transportation, logistics, or accounts payable.

Experience in bulk liquid chemical transportation preferred.
-
Experience supporting construction industry distribution a plus.
Technical Skills
-
Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP ERP) and Transportation Management Systems (TMS).

Strong Excel skills and experience with Power BI

Familiarity with freight terms (FOB, CIF, fuel surcharge structures, etc.)

Work Environment

Office-based role within a corporate environment.

Minimal to no travel required outside of reporting office.

Occasional interaction with plant operations and warehouse personnel.
This position is based in Beachwood, OH office. All employees expected to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
