Front Desk / Barista — Summer

About the Role

Hotel Albatross is a boutique property on the New Jersey Shore offering guests a refined, intimate experience. We're looking for a motivated and personable Summer Associate who can move seamlessly between two core functions: welcoming and supporting our guests at the front desk, and crafting quality coffee and beverages at our in-house bar. The balance of these responsibilities shifts by shift — some mornings lean heavily on the espresso machine, while evenings belong to check-ins, guest services, and property operations.

This is not a background role. You'll be the face of the hotel — the first smile guests see and the last impression they carry home. We need someone who takes ownership, doesn't wait to be told what needs doing, and genuinely enjoys being of service.

What You'll Do

Front Desk duties include:

  • Manage guest check-ins and check-outs with warmth and efficiency
  • Handle reservations, room inquiries, and special requests
  • Respond promptly to guest needs in person, by phone, and via email
  • Maintain accurate records and perform nightly audit tasks as assigned
  • Coordinate with housekeeping and maintenance to ensure room readiness
  • Uphold property standards and proactively address issues before they escalate

Barista duties include:

  • Prepare espresso-based beverages, drip coffee, and seasonal specialty drinks
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked bar station
  • Engage guests in a friendly, knowledgeable manner about the menu
  • Follow food safety and sanitation standards at all times
  • Support light food service (pastries, snacks) as needed

Qualifications

Required:

  • Demonstrated experience in hotel/hospitality OR as a barista — one or the other is required; both is a strong plus
  • Weekend and evening availability throughout the summer season (through October)
  • A self-starter mindset — you identify what needs to be done and do it
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and efficient in a fast-paced environment
  • Reliable, punctual, and committed to the full season

Preferred:

  • Experience with Property Management Systems (PMS) or hotel reservation platforms
  • Barista certification or formal coffee training
  • Prior boutique or independent hotel experience
  • Familiarity with the NJ Shore hospitality market

Schedule & Compensation

  • Pay: $18 – $20 per hour, commensurate with experience
  • Tips: Gratuity-eligible position — barista tips are a meaningful supplement to hourly pay
  • Season: Now through October, with potential to extend
  • Shifts: Morning, afternoon, and evening shifts available; weekend availability is mandatory
  • Hours: Part-time and full-time candidates will be considered

What to Expect

Hotel Albatross is a small, close-knit team. You won't be lost in a corporate hierarchy — your contributions are visible and your impact is real. Peak season on the Shore moves fast, and we expect the same energy from our team. In return, you'll gain hands-on experience across multiple hospitality disciplines, work in a beautiful beachside setting, and be part of a property that genuinely cares about both guests and staff.

Submit your resume and a brief note about your background — hotel, barista, or both — to The RCMC Group. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Early applicants are strongly encouraged; positions fill quickly for the summer season.
