Front-End Engineer (React Native / TypeScript)

Joy 101 is a fast-growing wellness startup founded by Hoda Kotb. The platform helps people build joyful habits through a digital-first approach, combining meditation, mindset exercises, live events, and curated daily practices. With the app described as a “retreat in your pocket,” Joy 101 has quickly gained recognition as an innovative and impactful wellness brand.

You will join a small, agile cross-functional team consisting of backend and frontend engineers, QA, and a dedicated Product Manager. The team works in short iterations, with close collaboration and frequent feedback cycles. Our mission is to deliver high-quality, user-friendly features that empower people to live more joyful, balanced lives.

• Build and maintain mobile application features using React Native and TypeScript

• Implement efficient data fetching and state management with React Query

• Develop and maintain secure authentication flows with Firebase Auth

• Integrate with RESTful APIs, ensuring reliability, error handling, and performance

• Collaborate closely with backend engineers, QA, and the Product Manager to design and deliver end-to-end solutions

• Write clean, testable, and maintainable code following best practices

• Participate in code reviews, share knowledge, and uphold high engineering standards

• Contribute to agile ceremonies (planning, stand-ups, retrospectives) and help refine backlog items

• Optimize app performance, usability, and reliability across different devices and platforms

• Support continuous integration and deployment processes, including Git workflows and automation

Must-Have:

• 4+ years of experience with React Native for building cross-platform mobile applications

• Proficiency with React Query or similar data-fetching and state management libraries

• Solid knowledge of TypeScript, including typing, interfaces, and generics

• Strong understanding of RESTful APIs (consumption, error handling, pagination, performance)

• Proficiency in Git and modern branching/merging workflows

• Ability to write clean, maintainable, and testable frontend code

• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills

Nice-to-Have:

• Experience with Contentful CMS or other headless CMS platforms

• Familiarity with Expo for React Native development and deployment

• Experience with GitHub Actions or other CI/CD tools

• Hands-on experience with Firebase SDK

• Understanding of mobile performance optimization and offline-first patterns

• Exposure to subscription-based apps or content-driven platforms
