Senior API Engineer (Onsite)

Location: Houston, Texas (In-person only)

EBS is seeking a highly motivated and multiskilled Full Stack (API focused) Engineer.

Position Summary

The Full Stack (API focused) Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of a modernized service and API layer that will serve as the foundation for transitioning the company’s legacy VB6 and SQL Server–based platform to a modern web-based application architecture.

This individual will work onsite and in close partnership with product leadership, UX/UI development, and legacy subject matter experts to ensure seamless integration between existing systems and newly developed components. The role requires deep technical expertise in C#/.NET Core, SQL Server, and REST API design, as well as the ability to interpret and refactor legacy business logic into clean, maintainable services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain C#/.NET Core Web APIs to support new web application functionality.
• Integrate the API layer with the existing SQL Server schema, stored procedures, and data access patterns.
• Analyze and interpret business logic embedded in VB6 and legacy C-based programs.
• Develop clean domain models and service layers supporting modern architecture patterns.
• Ensure APIs meet standards for security, error handling, logging, and performance.
• Collaborate onsite with UX/UI engineers, product managers, QA teams, and legacy SMEs.
• Participate in architectural planning and provide modernization strategy recommendations.
• Create and maintain technical documentation including API specifications and workflow mappings.
• Develop automated unit and integration tests for API components.
• Troubleshoot issues involving API performance, SQL execution, or data integrity.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of professional software development experience with C# and .NET Core.
• Production experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs.
• Advanced proficiency with SQL Server, including performance tuning and stored procedures.
• Experience working with or modernizing legacy systems such as VB6.
• Strong understanding of layered architecture and domain-driven design.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work onsite full-time and collaborate effectively in person.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with VB6, COM Interop, or legacy modernization initiatives.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS.
• Knowledge of CI/CD tooling and modern deployment pipelines.
• Awareness of frontend technologies (React, Next.js, Tailwind).
• Experience in ERP, rental, or dealership management system domains.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work onsite in an office environment.
• Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a workstation.
• Ability to participate in collaborative sessions involving whiteboards and group discussions.

Success Factors (First 90 Days)

• Establish API architecture, patterns, and development standards.
• Deliver initial read-only API endpoints for dashboards and inquiry screens.
• Implement one domain workflow in the new service layer.
• Provide documentation and a roadmap for future modernization phases.
