SEBRING LOCAL SCHOOLJOB DESCRIPTION: FULL-TIME AFTERNOON SHIFT CUSTODIAN
Purpose Statement:The position of Custodian was established for the purpose of creating and maintaining an attractive, safe, and sanitary environment for all students, staff, and community members who utilize the facilities.
Qualifications: A minimum of a High School Diploma, good health, demonstrated aptitude for successful fulfillment of assigned performance responsibilities, or such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Reports to: Building Principal
Evaluation: Annually
Essential Duties:-
Prepares the facility for daily operations to ensure it is operational and safe for occupancy.

Opens building (depending on the shift worked).

Unlock all exterior doors and those interior doors not used as classrooms which by law must be unlocked when the building is being used.

Secures facilities and grounds (depending on shift) (e.g., lock doors, turn off lights, set alarm, etc.) for the purpose of minimizing property damage, equipment loss, and potential liability to the district.

Check heating or cooling for the comfort and welfare of those using the building.

Turn on necessary lights.

When applicable, removal of snow and ice from entrance ways and walks. Excessive snow will be removed by the Building and Grounds supervisor using the districts truck and snow plow.

Raising and lowering of flags.

Takes out crossing signs and cones

Arranges furnishings and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings, classroom activities, and athletic events.

Replace or repair damaged furniture.
-
Make periodic inspection of all storage areas, fire escape doors, water and steam lines, roof, downspouts, and exhaust fans.

Cleans assigned school or district facilities (e.g., classrooms, offices, restrooms, lunch rooms, halls, carpets, removes graffiti, windows, walls, bleachers, stage, locker rooms, sidewalks, grounds, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe, and orderly environment at the school or District Office.

Cleaning shall include, but is not limited to: sweeping, mopping, waxing, and sealing the floors; dusting and washing windows, walls, and woodwork; cleaning ventilators

Check restroom areas periodically for necessary materials and malfunctioning fixtures.

Completes employer-required training for the purpose of maintaining current knowledge regarding specific job and/or district, state, and federal rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and laws.

Distributes supplies, equipment, and/or mail (e.g., fill soap dispensers, towel/toilet paper dispensers, packages, furniture, TV/DVD/computer carts, etc.) for the purpose of disseminating materials to appropriate parties and/or locations.

Informs students, staff, and visitors for the purpose of providing information regarding activities, safety, and/or proper maintenance of facilities.

Inspects assigned school or district facilities for the purpose of ensuring that the site is suitable for safe operations, maintained in an attractive and clean condition, and/or identifying/reporting necessary repairs due to vandalism, equipment breakage, weather conditions, etc.

Makes efficient use of custodial supplies and equipment and stores them in a safe location.

Maintains supplies and equipment (e.g., cleaning solutions, paper products, vacuum, mops, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items required to properly stock facilities.

Oversees students assigned to cafeteria or other duties (at the Elementary School) for the purpose of ensuring students receive appropriate instruction, direction, and oversight while volunteering and/or assigned to cafeteria detail.

Performs assigned work for the purpose of assisting with the timely and satisfactory completion of special projects.

Provides assistance to others to schedule the facilities for the purpose of ensuring facility usage is accurately scheduled and providing assistance and information to those requesting use of the facilities.

Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (e.g., facility damage, alarms, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action to resolve immediate safety issues and maintain a functioning educational environment.

Wash and dry laundry as needed.

Keeps such records and submits reports if required.

Perform summer maintenance

Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands:The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls (significant fine finger dexterity); and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently must squat, stoop, or kneel, crouch, and/or crawl, reach about the head, and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climb onto ladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.This position requires significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, such as cleaning supplies, pails, and unloading trucks. Occasionally, the employee will lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, such as salt and bulk furniture. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, bleachers, and scrubbing machines. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Responsibility:Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized routines; providing information and/or advising others; and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the organizations services.

Job Requirements - Skills, Knowledge, and AbilitiesSKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks, with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating equipment used in industrial maintenance, including electrical cleaning equipment, common tools, etc., and adhering to safety practices.KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: methods of industrial cleaning, safety practices, and procedures.ABILITY is required to schedule activities and/or meetings; collate data; and consider several factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals, work with similar types of data, and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Some problem-solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation, and problem solving with equipment is moderate.
