FULL TIME COURT CLERK JP#2

SUMMARY OF POSITION

Performs clerical and basic bookkeeping functions for Justice of the Peace Precinct 2. The purpose of this position is to plan, organize and supervise while performing legal clerical work in support of the daily operations of the Justice of the Peace. This is accomplished by prioritizing, assigning tasks, preparing legal documents, developing work procedures, analyzing issues and problem resolution.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

1. : JP Precinct 1 & 2 Judges

2. : This is a non-supervisory position.

3. : Has frequent contact with County officials, department heads, County employees, state officials, and the general public

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:EXAMPLES OF WORK

· Preparing and processing and/or reissuing a variety of legal documents, such as warrants, subpoenas, protective orders, and temporary restraining orders; workload focuses primarily on civil processes (i.e. writs of possession, writs of execution, writs of garnishments and writs of sequestration) and citations (i.e. suits, small claims, justice suits; and criminal investigations);

· Prepare tax suit documents for service on citizens who are delinquent on payment of property taxes; prepare legal documents for sales of real and personal property legally confiscated by the County;

· Prepare legal notices of citations and legal actions by arranging for posting in public places and/or publication in media;

· Mail out cards notifying citizens of pending civil or small claims actions/paperwork;

· Log in and submit money received from paid bonds to bookkeepers; coordinate with bond companies and various courts to verify incarceration of violator;

· Perform receptionist duties by receiving calls from members of the public, responding to inquiries, providing information within scope of responsibility, and referring calls to other co-workers as appropriate;

· Perform general office work, including routine filing, copying and data processing

· Perform additional duties as requested by the Judge.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Skill/Ability to:

Must possess working knowledge of the English language, spelling. Possess good interpersonal skills in dealing with offenders, public, and co-workers court personnel, city/county personnel, law enforcement agencies and must function as a team player with local/state resource agencies. Knowledge of computer and their programs and be able to type 50 wpm. Applicant must have the ability to follow verbal and written instructions, and follow office policies and procedures.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
High school graduation, or its equivalent, plus at least three years experience working with the public in a related legal clerical position, preferably with a governmental entity;
or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.77 - $18.67 per hour
