Job Description

Water Department Laborer

Job Summary: Performs work required for the maintenance, repair, and improvement of

buildings, equipment, grounds and systems as directed by the Department Manager, Foreman

or Chief Operator. The employee is expected to exercise independent judgment in the field

and at all times.

Education / Qualifications:

1. High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent

2. PA Drivers License, CDL required within 6 months of hiring

Reporting Responsibility: Department Manager

$19.00 / hr starting wage

Job Responsibilities/Requirements:

1. Perform work required for the maintenance, repair, and improvement of buildings,

equipment, vehicles and grounds.

2. Safely operate equipment with proper training, including, but not limited to, backhoe, skid

steer, zero-turn mower, forklift and mowing equipment.

3. Perform work required for maintenance of the system outside the department grounds.

4. Expected to be available for call-out in emergencies and available for work on weekends

and holidays.

5. Acquire and maintain any special licensing and certification needed to properly perform

duties. (SMA will work with employee)

6. Assist other departments on an as needed basis.

7. Expected to work in the field executing repairs to the authority’s various systems, repairing

roads, assisting with traffic control (flagging), demolition work and various other work for

the maintenance of the system in all conditions and any terrain.

8. Performs work not specifically related to the operation, such as, moving heavy equipment

or materials, various grounds work including grass cutting, snow removal and general

housekeeping.

9. Performs all related work as required or assigned by the Department Manager, Foreman or

Chief Operator.

10. Perform manual labor such as, but not limited to, digging with a shovel, pick and digging

bar, operating a jack hammer and weed whacker and other hand-held tools.

11. Maintain professionalism at all times in the presence of the public.

12. Pursue relevant continuing education on an ongoing basis or as directed.

13. Perform work in a safe manner & obtain Safety training as needed.

14. Position requires lifting objects weighing at least 65 pounds and capability of standing for

extended periods of time with short breaks.

15. Ability to work as a team player or independently.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.00 per hour
