Full Time Operations Officer

The Pitt Greenville Airport (PGV) is seeking applicants for a Full Time Operations Officer I position, promoted to Operations Officer II after 6-month probation and completion of training and certifications. High School diploma/equivalent required. Line service/ Aviation/ ARFF /Customer Service experience preferred. Must pass fuel and fire training courses.

Must pass a pre-Physical and pre-employment drug test, must pass a fingerprint-based Criminal History Records Check and Security Threat Assessment to obtain an airport badge and possess a Valid NC class C driver’s License. Hourly pay plus benefits. Evenings, weekends, Holidays and callout required.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB:

Under the supervision of Operations Chief: perform a variety of related duties for the safe and effective operation of an airport, including aircraft handling and servicing, airfield operations, security and Airport Rescue Fire Fighting.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Park, fuels, and services aircraft.
  • Performs assistance as may be required of pilots and passengers.
  • Performs and documents daily inspections on fueling vehicles, fuel farm, fire apparatus, facilities and components of the airport.
  • Completes Fuel truck paperwork, Fuel tickets and reports necessary to conduct fuel sales.
  • Provides aircraft with airport advisories and receives service requests by VHF radio.
  • Answers the telephone, takes service requests and directs phone calls as needed.
  • Provides radio dispatch for service requests as needed.
  • Provides cleaning of line service, fire and emergency equipment, vehicles and apparatus.
  • Participates in cleaning of airport buildings and grounds
  • Assists with annual inspections
  • Receives and responds to fire calls
  • Attends or drives on fire apparatus to scene of fire, connects hoses to hydrant and use hoses to apply water/AFFF/ chemicals to fire as needed. Uses roof and bumper turrets for the same purpose.
  • Uses portable fire extinguishers to combat small fires
  • Extricates trapped victims from wreckage or other emergency situations.
  • Participates in post-fire clean-up and salvage.
  • Attends continuing education classes, studies manuals, and participates in drills to learn new skills and maintain developed skills.
  • Performs snow and ice control activities
  • Performs security related functions to include perimeter inspections, terminal inspections, curbside inspections etc.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to communicate aeronautical advisories via radio.
  • Ability to physically direct and instruct aircraft to appropriate parking or hangar facility.
  • Ability to physically push or pull small aircraft up to 50 ± feet.
  • Ability to differentiate various types of aircraft and provide appropriate service needs.
  • Ability to climb standard ladders at least ten (10) feet high carrying fuel hoses.
  • Ability to climb on top of fuel tenders and some types of aircraft for refueling operation.
  • Ability to read meters from a distance of up to 50 feet for exact delivery of requested products.
  • Ability to visually determine fuel level in aircraft refueling operation to prevent overfill and spillage.
  • Ability to complete certification as a Line Service Technician, in keeping with training programs currently in use or as may be implemented by the Airport.
  • Ability to pull fuel hose to maximum allowable extension of 50 ± feet
  • Ability to physically handle hoses, nozzles, rewind reel, power take off (PTO), stick-shift drive, clutch and brakes on fuel tenders.
  • Ability to operate aircraft tow vehicles.
  • Must be willing and able to use a shotgun, rifle or pyrotechnic launcher for wildlife hazard management duties.
  • Ability to operate a variety of Airport equipment and vehicles including but not limited to; Auxiliary Power Units, Lawn Mowers, Weed Eaters, Floor Buffers, Carpet Steam Cleaners, and Power Blowers.
  • Ability to follow a complex work schedule and arrive to work on time.
  • Possess a thorough knowledge firefighting technique.
  • Possess a thorough working knowledge of modern firefighting and rescue principals, practices, and techniques.
  • Possess the skill in the operation, maintenance, and use of various firefighting and rescue equipment and apparatus.
  • Possess the ability to deal calmly, tactfully, yet firmly with persons in a wide range of emotional states
  • Possess the ability to exercise sound judgment in routine and emergency situations.
  • Possess the ability to accept fire and rescue discipline and operational routine.
  • Possess the ability to recognize hazards and to exercise safety precautions to avoid injury to self and others.
  • Possess the ability to respond without hesitation to instructions and emergency demands.
  • Possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other departmental officers and employees and the general public.
  • Must have completed/or be able to complete a hunter safety course.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Shift work, including nights, weekends and holidays. Work involves some risk to personal safety in exposure to the usual hazards of firefighting, security and exposure to fuel. Work involves exposure to all weather conditions experienced in eastern North Carolina.
