Start date:
ASAP
Pay Range:
$55,000–$60,000 gross annual compensation. This Household Assistant role functions as a rotating live-in position. Compensation will be paid legally on an hourly basis, with applicable overtime rates, and taxes will be withheld. The total annual compensation range reflects the expected hours worked throughout the year.
.
Role/Duties:
Household Assistant would provide mostly evening and overnight supervision of the household; basic pet care, including feeding and letting pets outside. About 25% of the time, additional nanny support for the 16-year-old daughter, focused on companionship and assistance with meals and occasional driving. Additional responsibilities include light household tasks such as light laundry and tidying, as well as running errands and grocery pickup as needed.
.
Schedule:
This role requires full-time availability, though the total hours will be less than full-time. The position includes scheduled overnight stays, planned in advance based on the family’s travel schedule. Overnight shifts run from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., with an additional midday visit to let the dogs out. Sleeping hours are included during the overnight shift. On average, the family anticipates 8–14 overnight stays per month. The Household Assistant will be compensated for 14 overnight shifts per month, regardless of whether the family ultimately travels that much in a given month. Typically assignments may range from 3–5 consecutive nights at a time. During months when the entire family is traveling, coverage may extend to longer stretches of 7–10 consecutive days, and total up to 14 overnight stays in that month. The family anticipates a minimum of 3–4 week-long trips in 2026. Holiday travel may include being fully away for Thanksgiving and will definitely include being away from the day of Christmas through January 2. When the 16-year-old is home, mom typically travels for no more than 3–5 days at a time. The family would describe themselves as planners, and most travel is scheduled in advance. However, there will occasionally be some short last-minute travel, which is why this is structured as a full-time position and the family is seeking a Household Assistant who can commit to this role as their primary professional commitment and maintain schedule flexibility that prioritizes evenings, overnights, and some weekends. The family plans to hold a monthly meeting to coordinate upcoming dates and schedules. The Household Assistant is welcome to request time off and share personal vacation plans and obligations in advance. The family values collaboration and will do their best to work around the Household Assistant’s time off whenever possible, as most travel will be scheduled ahead of time.
.
Benefits:
The family will reimburse miles driven during the workday at the federal mileage rate.
.
Children:
The family has one daughter, age 16. She is funny, kind, and a conscientious student. She is very active in school and sports, including track and cross country, which keep her busy on weekdays and into the weekends. She enjoys spending time with friends and is social, but also values relaxing at home. After school, she typically needs some downtime before re-engaging in the evening. Friends often stay over, and the family home is a welcoming gathering place. She currently drives herself to school and to friends’ homes, though she is still new to driving and may occasionally need transportation support. She drives to and from school home usually at 5:30/6:00 p.m. each school day.
.
Family Values:
This family values kindness, showing it to others and guiding their daughter to be kind and caring to herself. The family includes four older step-siblings who are now grown and living independently, but remain an important part of family life. Spending time together is meaningful, and shared meals have always been a special way to connect and center the day. The family enjoys traveling and vacationing together, as well as simple at-home traditions like game nights and family movie nights. The parents believe in allowing space for emotions—having a hard day is okay. The approach is to acknowledge feelings, take time to reset, and then move forward in a healthy way. Encouragement, consistency, and routine are important, including coming together for dinner and maintaining good self-care habits. Mom is detail-oriented, organized, and appreciates someone who notices and anticipates needs, keeps the home clean and organized, and can fully step in to manage the household during her absence. She is flexible and a strong communicator, and values open, direct, and honest communication. Dad appreciates organization, cleanliness and routine. Above all, the parents are deeply proud of their daughter and admire her strength and resilience. They would say watching her navigate challenges with courage has been one of the most meaningful parts of parenting.
.
Pets:
The family has two dogs (Doodles), ages 4 and 5, and two cats (Ragdolls), ages 1 and 4. All pets are well-mannered and easygoing. The dogs stay in the house overnight, are let out during the day, and are never left alone for more than four hours at a time. They have a fenced-in backyard and should be taken on walks as weather permits.
.
Hopes:
Ultimately, the family is seeking a professional Household Assistant with a minimum of 5 years of professional nanny and/or household management experience who is responsible, reliable, and trustworthy. This role requires priority in your schedule and will not be the right fit for someone with a full weekend of personal commitments. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and proactive, with a calm, warm, and nurturing presence. Experience working with adolescents or teens is preferred. The ideal candidate is adaptable, communicates clearly, is comfortable managing the household during parental travel, and enjoys and is competent with animals. The family requires a minimum 1-year commitment and could see this role continuing beyond that timeframe as well as potential for greater role and responsibilities in the future.
