About Us:
At Straith Behavioral Health, we are dedicated to delivering high-quality, compassionate care to children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorders and co-occurring psychiatric conditions. Our Inpatient Psychiatric Developmental Disability Unit provides a structured, therapeutic environment focused on individualized, multidisciplinary treatment. As we continue to expand our program, we are seeking skilled and compassionate Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to join our growing team and support our mission of excellence in pediatric behavioral health care.

Position Summary:
The RN/LPN will provide direct psychiatric nursing care to pediatric patients within our specialized Inpatient Psychiatric Developmental Disability Unit. The preferred candidate will possess experience in child and adolescent psychiatric care and demonstrate a strong commitment to serving neurodiverse populations. This role involves close collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, including psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs), and Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) to develop and implement individualized, comprehensive treatment plans.

This position is well suited for a motivated and innovative nurse who is committed to working in an inpatient setting. It offers a unique and rewarding opportunity for nursing professionals interested in the expanding field of Applied Behavior Analysis and autism-focused psychiatric care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer medications as prescribed and monitor patients for therapeutic response, side effects, and adverse reactions, particularly psychotropic medications.
  • Provide patient and family centered education regarding diagnoses, medications, and individualized treatment plans.
  • Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated, comprehensive, and high-quality care.
  • Perform ongoing assessments of patients’ physical, psychiatric, and behavioral health needs, and provide or coordinate appropriate nursing interventions.
  • Develop, implement, and regularly update individualized nursing care plans based on assessed needs and patient progress.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough documentation in the electronic medical record in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards.
  • Deliver nursing care within the standards and scope of practice defined by the applicable State Nurse Practice Act, as well as facility and corporate policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Accurately receive, clarify, and transcribe physician orders, including verbal orders, in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Continuously monitor patient status, promptly identifying changes in condition and documenting relevant clinical information.
  • Ensure initial nursing treatment plans are completed upon admission and reflect individualized, assessed needs.
  • Demonstrate consistent adherence to infection control practices, including universal precautions, when providing direct patient care.
  • Complete admission and discharge processes efficiently, accurately, and in compliance with established guidelines.
  • Establish and maintain therapeutic rapport with patients by demonstrating professionalism, appropriate boundaries, respect for personal space, focused engagement, and therapeutic detachment.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold HIPAA standards in all patient care activities.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse program). New graduates welcome.
  • Current, unrestricted RN or LPN license in the state of Michigan
  • Minimum of one year of nursing experience preferred; prior experience in psychiatric, mental health, behavioral health, or substance use disorder settings is strongly preferred.
  • Current CPR certification required; PALS certification preferred (or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe).
  • Demonstrated strong communication, clinical judgment, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
  • Experience in an inpatient, residential, or acute behavioral health care setting is preferred.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive compensation based on experience and schedule.
  • Collaborative and supportive interdisciplinary team.
