Full-Time Teller Job Description

Job Overview
The primary role of the Teller is to provide outstanding service to members by performing routine financial transactions such as deposits, withdrawals, and cashing checks, while also ensuring accuracy and security of transactions. The Teller is also responsible for presenting and explaining a basic number of credit union products and services to members. They serve as the initial point of contact for members entering the credit union.

Duties

  • Greets and provides members with top-notch member service to build positive member relationships.
  • Responsible for assisting members in person or on the telephone and handling the transactions requested, or directing the member to the proper person, and ensuring that all requests for services by members are processed in a timely manner in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Handles various banking transactions such as deposits, withdrawals and transfers.
  • Verifies identity, signatures, amounts, and account details to ensure accuracy.
  • Maintains cash drawer and ensures its accuracy and security.
  • Responsible for balancing cash drawer at the end of each shift and comparing the total amount to the core processor generated amount; researches and resolves any outages and reports any unresolved outages to the head teller or branch manager.
  • Recognizes and reports suspicious activity and/or potential fraud.
  • Accurately records transactions in the core processing system.
  • Promotes and cross-sells credit union products and services that align with member needs.
  • Balances ATM under dual control, assists with coin bag shipment process.
  • Processes night deposit and mail transactions.
  • Processes check re-order and temporary check requests for members.
  • Assists members with mobile/online banking, bill pay, remote deposit capture, and automated response unit questions and issues.
  • Assists members with address change and other forms, safe deposit box access and other basic requests.
  • Develops and maintains adequate product and service knowledge.
  • Follows policy and procedures related to Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Customer Identification Program (CIP) and Customer Due Diligence (CDD) daily to ensure compliance with current regulations.
  • Strictly adheres to MUCU organizational and operational policies and procedures.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent with one or more years of work related experience. Work related experience should consist of cash handling and/or teller background.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret various documents and forms.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to work with minimal supervision while performing duties.
  • Demonstrated ability to cross-sell and explain all credit union products and services with confidence and authority.
  • Basic skills in personal computer operation, including word-processing and account processing software. Basic math skills, including, but not limited to the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, using whole numbers, and decimals.
  • Excellent oral and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions, understand procedures, and speak clearly to members.

Pay: From $16.50 per hour
