Job Description:

THE POSITION
Compton Community College District is seeking an innovative individual whose focus is on student learning for a full-time, tenure-track position in Commercial Music. Duties associated with the position include teaching classes, teaching related activities, participation in a variety of campus and divisional activities such as faculty meetings, committee work, student activities, office hours, student learning outcomes and assessment, curriculum/instructional development, annual program planning, and program review. Commitment to consistent participation in department, division, and college committees and to ongoing professional development is expected. Assignment may include teaching courses during day and evening hours, including weekends, and at high school locations. Selected candidates will be invited for an interview, which will include a teaching demonstration on an assigned topic

Compton College is part of the Compton Community College District, which encompasses an area of about 29 square miles, making educational services available to nearly 300,000 residents of Compton, Lynwood, Paramount and Willowbrook, as well as portions of Athens, Bellflower, Carson, Downey, Dominguez, Lakewood, Long Beach and South Gate. About 350 full- and part-time faculty teach more than 43 degree programs and 47 certificate programs.

The Compton College campus includes 54 buildings across 88 acres. In November 2002, the district won voter approval of Measure CC, authorizing the issuance of $100 million in general obligation bonds to upgrade classrooms, labs, infrastructure, and instructional equipment, while making much-needed health and safety repairs and energy-efficiency improvements. In November 2014, district voters approved Measure C, a $100 million facilities bond designed to make technology and safety upgrades campuswide.


Required Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree and two (2) years' professional experience OR an Associate of Arts Degree and six (6) years' professional experience OR The equivalent. Candidates not possessing the required qualifications as stated above must complete the supplemental page of the district application and explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above; OR
Valid California community college instructor credential in the appropriate subject issued prior to July 1, 1990 (per California Education Code 87355); AND
Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of college students.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in Music;
Recent community college teaching experience; demonstrated ability to develop a variety of effective teaching techniques and assessment methods; ability to engage student interest to support a variety of learning styles; ability to promote the use of instructional technology in curriculum delivery; ability to collaborate with faculty and college on issues affecting institutional, division and campus wide programs; ability to cultivate partnerships with related program industry members and advisory committees; effective oral and written communication skills.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

SALARY RANGE: $61, 995 - $126,357 (depending upon education and experience)
The College provides a diversified insured benefit program for all full-time employees, including medical, dental, vision and life insurance. Dependent medical, dental and vision insurance is available, toward which the College and the employee may contribute.
Paid sick leave is granted equal to one day for each month of service. Sick leave may be accumulated indefinitely. Rather than State Disability Insurance, limited sick-leave benefits are available for days beyond the earned sick-leave days. Long-term disability income-protection insurance is also available.
Full-time employees contribute a percentage of their regular salary to either the State Teachers' Retirement System (STRS) or to the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) and Social Security.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Full-time, tenure-track teaching position effective Fall 2026.
