Job Title: Scrap Yard Operation In-charge
Department: SMS Raw Material Location: Hisar Reporting To: Barun Kumar Mahata Experience Required: 10 to 15 years of experience Industry: Stainless Steel Manufacturing

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented professional to join our SMS Raw Material team in the role of Scrap Yard Operation In-charge.
Job Purpose: The Scrap Yard Operational In-charge is responsible for the end-to-end management of raw material flow. This role oversees the unloading of incoming bulk materials (SS Scrap, MS Scrap, Sponge Iron, and other raw materials), coordinates raw material sampling and quality inspections, and manages Material Handling Equipment (MHE). Additionally, the role involves planning the charge blend for SMS consumption and coordinating daily with the SMS production team.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Unloading of Raw Material
- Turnaround Time (TAT): Ensure the timely unloading of raw material strictly as per the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to prevent vehicle detention and demurrage charges.
- Traceability: Maintain proper identification and traceability of raw materials from receipt to stacking.
2. Raw Material Physical Quality Inspection
- Impurity Checks: Conduct rigorous inspections for physical impurities such as dust, plastic, moisture, radiation, and other abnormalities in the material.
- Sampling Coordination: Coordinate raw material sampling and oversee physical impurity analysis to ensure quality standards are met.
3. Raw Material Supply Operations (SMS Feeding)
- Shift Management: Manage operations across all three shifts to ensure the raw material supply to the SMS functions exactly as planned.
- Charge Mix Planning: Collaborate with the Melting Shift In-charge to prepare the correct "Charge Mix," ensuring the supply supports good yield and maintains opening chemistry within the acceptable range.
- Zero Delay: Proactively monitor operations to ensure there are no delays in raw material supply to the furnace.
4. Safety, Housekeeping, and Audit Compliance
- Yard Safety: Maintain high safety standards in the yard and strictly enforce the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- 5S & Housekeeping: Maintain proper housekeeping to ensure a clean and safe working environment.
- Audit Readiness: Ensure all documentation (Logbooks, Shift Reports, Weighment Slips) is maintained and up-to-date to comply with Internal Audits and ISO external audits.
5. Manage MHE & Resources
- Equipment Upkeep: Ensure all Material Handling Equipment (Hydras, Excavators, EOT Cranes, Magnets) are in excellent working condition.
- Maintenance Planning: Liaise with the maintenance department to plan scheduled maintenance during non-peak hours to maximize uptime.
- Resource Optimization: Handle manpower planning and resource optimization to ensure efficient operations.
Qualifications & Experience:
Experience: 10 – 15 years of experience in a Steel Plant, specifically in Scrap Yard or Raw Material Handling System (RMHS) operations.
Key Skills & Competencies:
Domain Knowledge: Strong knowledge of Scrap grades (Stainless Steel, Mild Steel, HMS, LMS, Turning) and Ferro Alloys. Knowledge of Operations at Steel Melting scrap Electric Arc Furnace, Induction Furnace route and Argon Oxygen Decarburisation
Operational Skills: Ability to handle manpower optimize operations, ISO compliance practice
Technical Proficiency: Knowledge of SAP MM module is essential (GRN, MIGO, raising Purchase Requisitions/PR), Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
