Position Summary
The GA Pre-K Lead Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate educational program for four-year-old children enrolled in Georgia’s Lottery-Funded Pre-K Program. This position ensures compliance with Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) and Bright from the Start regulations, while fostering each child’s intellectual, social, emotional, and physical growth in preparation for kindergarten.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement daily lesson plans aligned with the Georgia Early Learning and Development Standards (GELDS) and approved GA Pre-K curriculum.
- Create a safe, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment that supports all areas of child development.
- Conduct ongoing assessments of children’s progress and maintain required documentation (e.g., Work Sampling Online portfolios).
- Maintain accurate and timely records including attendance, student files, lesson plans, and compliance reports required by DECAL.
- Communicate regularly with families through conferences, progress reports, and classroom updates.
- Collaborate effectively with assistant teachers, administrators, and other staff to ensure a consistent, high-quality program.
- Ensure all Georgia Pre-K program and licensing standards are followed, including child/staff ratios and safety requirements.
- Participate in state-mandated professional development and ongoing training.
- Model professionalism, strong work ethic, and commitment to Chroma’s mission and values.
Credential Requirements (per GA Lottery-Funded Pre-K guidelines)
Lead Teachers must meet one of the following qualifications:
- A valid Georgia teaching certificate in: Early Childhood Education (Birth–5), or Special Education General Curriculum/ECE
- A valid out-of-state teaching certificate in early childhood or elementary education.
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or a related field and eligibility for GA PSC certification.
Additional Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age (unless exempt due to degree/credential level).
- Completion of required DECAL Pre-K training.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Clear background check in compliance with state regulations.
- Ability to lift 40+ lbs and actively engage with children indoors and outdoors.
- This position requires a 190 day contract (180 class days+10 professional development days)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching in a GA Lottery-Funded Pre-K classroom.
- Familiarity with Creative Curriculum or similar early childhood curriculum.
- Experience using Work Sampling System (WSO) for student assessments.
