Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and motivated IT Specialist to join our dynamic IT team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in technical support and a comprehensive understanding of various operating systems. This role is essential in maintaining our IT infrastructure in Galena, AK, ensuring that all systems run smoothly and efficiently. The Specialist will be responsible for supporting the technical team, tracking performance, training computer technicians, managing escalations, and ensuring that customer support standards are maintained for all Galena City School District staff members and the families we serve.

The Galena IT Specialist I serves as an entry-level technology professional responsible for delivering responsive technology services and ensuring reliable access to district systems and digital resources for staff and students at Syndey C Huntington School and Galena Interior Learning Academy. This role focuses on user enablement, device lifecycle coordination, and foundational system operations while building technical expertise in a collaborative team environment.

The Galena IT Specialist II delivers comprehensive technology service for staff and students at Syndey C Huntington School and Galena Interior Learning Academy with a focus on system reliability, networked environments, and instructional technology integration. This role operates under the supervision of the Galena IT Systems Manager and contributes to infrastructure operations, user enablement, and the execution of district technology initiatives.

The Galena IT Specialist III is a senior-level technology professional who delivers comprehensive technology service for staff and students at Syndey C Huntington School and Galena Interior Learning Academy, and is responsible for advanced systems engineering, infrastructure stewardship, and organizational technology leadership. This role operates under the supervision of the Galena IT Systems Manager and ensures the performance, security, and scalability of district technology environments while guiding strategic initiatives and developing staff capabilities.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Beginning Education & Experience

  • Associates degree or equivalent IT training; or 1-3 years relevant experience.
  • CompTIA A+ (required within 12 months of hire) Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Foundational knowledge of computing systems and end-user technologies.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information in an understandable manner.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and contribute to collective goals, especially in cross-functional settings.
  • Strong commitment to providing high-quality and responsive service to staff and students.
  • Strong intellectual curiosity and motivated to advance in the profession.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • 1. Deliver front-line technology services that ensure staff and students can effectively access and utilize district systems.
  • 2. Prepare, configure, and deploy end-user devices, applications, and digital tools.
  • 3. Identify service interruptions and coordinate timely resolution through established processes.
  • 4. Assist with onboarding or users into district systems.
  • 5. Maintain service records, technology inventory, and lifecycle tracking systems.
  • 6. Contribute to development of user-facing resources, quick guides, and knowledge baste materials.
  • 7. Participate in structured professional learning and cross-training initiatives.
  • 8. Adhere to all GCSD policies and procedures
  • 9. Perform such other tasks and assume other responsibilities as the Director of Technology Operations may assign.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT REQUIREMENTS FOR ADVANCEMENT

  • 1. 2 – 4 years of successful performance.
  • 2. Demonstrated ability to independently manage service delivery and issue resolution pathways.
  • 3. Completion of A+ certification and progression toward advanced credentials.
  • 4. Strong performance evaluations and evidence of initiative.
  • 5. Ability to guide users and deliver basic training sessions.

Pay: From $68,000.00 per year
