Game Director - Pirates

The Game Director oversees all aspects of presentation within SportsNet Pittsburgh’s, Pirates game telecasts. The Game Director guides the visual aspects of the broadcast including live coverage, camera assignments, crew assignments, specialty coverage, and team initiatives. In unison with the Game Producer, this role will lead the presentation of a fun, informative, energetic, positive, entertaining telecast for the fans.

The Game Director represents the Pirates and SportsNet Pittsburgh (SNP) with authority and class in an effort to drive viewership and revenue. They will coordinate closely with Studio Production to support any visual needs, including but not limited to warmups, BP and early work. They will also work closely with internal departments across SNP, NESN and the Pirates to further the company goals and initiatives.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Direct Pirates game telecasts in person, both home and road, as scheduled by the Director of Production & Operations
  • Collaborate with SNP management on crew, production, and talent coaching and feedback
  • Ensure all content and presentation meets industry and NESN/SNP network standards for integrity and production quality
  • Assign, along with Tech MGR and Game Producer, technical positions for each game; including cameras, replay, video, utilities, A2’s, V2’s
  • Coordinate camera locations with Pirates/PNC Park or home team/ballpark personnel prior to each event
  • Coordinate with Technical Director for visual elements, feeds, cameras and sets
  • Coordinate with the Game Producer and Announcers on elements related to each event
  • Participate in MLB Broadcast Meetings and/or Calls as required
  • Partner with Studio Director for B-Roll, warmups, interviews and any other necessary support of pregame and postgame coverage
  • Direct Spring Training telecasts from SNP’s control room & direct regular season telecasts on-site for both home & road games
  • Full Set Days: coordinate planning for and lead execution of full cabling and/or setup days with Game Producer and Operations manager
  • While Pirates Baseball is the primary focus of this role, the Game Director may also be asked to direct additional telecasts, shows, pregame and/or postgame shows, within reason, as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Intimate knowledge of baseball nuance, team/league history, and team/league storylines.
  • Deep understanding of live sports production techniques, technology, and integration across various situations and platforms
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills with attention to detail
