Job Description

Garbage Collector to Driver

Reports to: General Manager, Driver

Brief Job Overview: The collector will retrieve garbage for residential service and learn routes to become driver; the driver will operate the vehicle and trailer and assist the collector to perform residential garbage collection, and provide necessary support during operations including preventative maintenance and reporting. This job takes place outdoors starting in early morning and lasting daily until routes and additional duties are complete.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Walk to, retrieve, and empty garbage cans through lifting, throwing, and dumping contents into trailer, then returning garbage can to specific location.
  • Ensure collected material is secure and protected from escaping collection truck/trailer.
  • Report to work on-time and without reservation to begin collection activities.
  • Check, update, and maintain equipment frequently.
  • Operate with and around vehicle and trailer safely to complete assigned route duties.
  • Follow any other orders, guidelines, and suggestions from general manager or supervisor/driver.

Qualifications:

  • Be able to individually lift and carry up to 50 lbs. consistently, or more with assistance.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a good driving record (MVR).
  • Be able to operate with and around truck and trailer according to all safety guidelines, laws, and requirements during route-runs.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • 30+ hours per week
  • $17.50/hour wage + $0.50 per route learned and taken over

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.50 per hour
