Turner's Garden Center, a family-rooted local gem since 1967, is seeking a reliable, positive, and hands-on Assistant Manager to support our team and keep things blooming smoothly. This full-time seasonal role (40–50 hours per week) involves a mix of daily operations, customer service, plant care, and stepping in to oversee the garden center when the manager is away. Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily garden center operations in the manager's absence, ensuring smooth flow, team coordination, and excellent customer experiences
- Provide friendly, knowledgeable assistance to customers—answering questions, helping select plants and products, and offering a warm, professional welcome
- Handle phone duties: answer calls, take orders, schedule deliveries, and provide plant/product info with a positive attitude
- Perform hands-on tasks including watering and caring for plants, tagging inventory, unloading incoming product shipments, and maintaining organized, inviting displays and aisles
- Assist with register operations, processing sales, and helping customers load purchases
- Support the manager with scheduling, team guidance, inventory checks, and other leadership tasks as needed
- Keep the Garden Center and sales areas clean, safe, and well-maintained through regular upkeep and organization
Qualifications & What We're Looking For
- Previous experience in retail, garden centers, customer service, or supervisory roles preferred; strong leadership potential and willingness to learn are key
- Reliable and punctual with a proven track record of showing up on time, following schedules, and handling responsibilities consistently
- Positive, upbeat demeanor and genuine enjoyment of working with people—customers love our friendly vibe, and you'll help keep it going strong
- Comfortable with physical work: standing/walking for long periods, lifting/moving plants and supplies (up to 50 lbs), watering, and working in Garden Center conditions (warm, humid, varying weather exposure)
- Basic plant knowledge or strong interest in gardening/horticulture is a plus—we'll build on what you know
- Solid organizational and multitasking skills; comfortable handling phones, orders, and quick decisions
- Team player who collaborates well and steps up to lead when needed
- Available for full-time hours (40–50 per week), including most weekends and occasional evenings during peak season
