Position Summary:
The Contractor Sales Representative serves as the key liaison between our Garden Center and landscape industry professionals. This position is responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with landscape contractors, builders, and maintenance companies, while also coordinating and supporting internal sales. The ideal candidate combines horticultural knowledge, customer service skills, and business acumen to drive sales and strengthen our reputation as the go-to supplier for landscape professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
External Sales & Relationship Building
- Develop and maintain relationships with local landscape/government contractors, designers, and builders.
- Conduct regular contractor visits, customer meetings, and follow-ups to understand client needs and project timelines.
- Prepare and deliver customized quotes, bids, and product recommendations.
- Proactively identify new contractor accounts and growth opportunities.
Internal Collaboration & Customer Service
- Serve as the internal point of contact for in-house sales, pricing, and product availability.
- Coordinate with purchasing, inventory, and operations teams to ensure timely fulfillment of sold jobs or special orders.
- Support retail sales staff with contractor-related inquiries and training on contractor programs.
- Maintain organized in-house sales records, including pricing, and purchase history.
Sales & Product Expertise
- Maintain a strong working knowledge of plant materials, hard goods, soils, fertilizers, and related landscape products.
- Stay current on seasonal trends, new varieties, and industry best practices.
- Assist with merchandising and promotional programs targeted at trade professionals.
- Provide input on purchasing decisions based on contractor demand and upcoming internal projects.
Administrative & Reporting
- Track sales performance, prepare forecasts, and provide regular updates to management.
- Ensure all quotes, orders, and customer interactions are documented accurately.
- Manage pricing consistency, volume discounts, and account terms within company guidelines.
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in landscape supply, horticulture, or contractor sales (preferred).
- Strong understanding of plant material and landscape products.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Self-motivated with proven sales or account management success.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and ability to learn other various software.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Must possess meticulous organizational skills and be extremely detail oriented.
Working Conditions:
- Primarily onsite at the Garden Center, with occasional travel to customer locations.
- Requires ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to withstand extreme outdoor temperatures.
