Location: Southtown / San Antonio, TX
Pay: Starting at $16/hour, with growth potential up to $20/hour based on capability, reliability, and tenure
Schedule: Part-time; mornings and some weekend/event availability preferred

Job Summary

Southtown Garden / Ivy Hall is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Gardener / Groundskeeper to help maintain a beautiful outdoor event property in Southtown San Antonio.

This is a hands-on outdoor position focused on keeping the garden clean, healthy, organized, and event-ready. The property hosts weddings, private events, tours, and hospitality activations, so presentation matters.

The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, works well independently, follows instructions, and notices details others may miss.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

  • Water plants, trees, bamboo, palms, succulents, and landscaped areas according to the approved watering schedule
  • Weed planting beds, gravel areas, fence lines, walkways, and visible guest areas
  • Blow leaves and debris from sidewalks, patios, walkways, entrances, and event spaces
  • Pick up trash, branches, leaves, and general debris throughout the property
  • Trim and clean up shrubs, bamboo, ornamental grasses, palms, and small trees
  • Remove dead leaves, branches, and declining plant material
  • Maintain clean and organized guest-facing garden areas
  • Monitor plants for signs of stress, pests, disease, or lack of water
  • Assist with planting, mulching, soil improvement, and seasonal refreshes
  • Prepare outdoor areas before weddings, private events, and property tours
  • Help reset outdoor areas after events as needed
  • Report irrigation issues, leaks, broken equipment, damaged plants, unsafe areas, or maintenance concerns
  • Keep tools and equipment clean, organized, and properly stored
  • Use landscaping tools and equipment safely and responsibly

Tools & Equipment

Candidate may use:

  • Leaf blower
  • Weed eater
  • Lawn mower
  • Pole saw
  • Hand pruners
  • Loppers
  • Rakes, shovels, brooms, hoses, bins, and other basic garden tools

Qualifications

  • Previous landscaping, gardening, groundskeeping, or property maintenance experience preferred
  • Ability to work outdoors in San Antonio weather conditions
  • Ability to lift, carry, bend, kneel, walk, and stand for extended periods
  • Comfortable using basic lawn and garden tools
  • Reliable transportation
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Dependable and punctual
  • Able to follow written checklists and instructions
  • Able to work independently without constant supervision
  • Professional attitude around guests, clients, vendors, and team members

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with event venues, hotels, restaurants, estates, commercial properties, or landscaped properties
  • Basic knowledge of watering schedules, pruning, irrigation, and plant care
  • Experience with palms, bamboo, succulents, ornamental plants, and garden beds
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus, but not required

Work Environment

This position is primarily outdoors and requires physical work in heat, sun, humidity, rain, and changing weather conditions. The property includes garden areas, gravel areas, walkways, patios, landscaped beds, entrances, and outdoor event spaces.

Compensation

Starting pay is $16 per hour.

Growth potential up to $20 per hour is available based on proven reliability, capability, quality of work, ability to work independently, safe equipment use, and tenure.
