Graham's Fine Gardening is seeking a part-time or full-time Gardening Foreman to join our crew for the 2026 season. This role pays $25-$30/hr based on experience. There are opportunities for skill-based raises as you grow with us, and potential for promotions into upper management as GFG continues to expand this year and beyond!
We are looking to hire IMMEDIATELY if we find the right candidate. We recently absorbed part of a colleague’s client list due to her closing down her business and are up to our eyeballs in work! This was an unexpected expansion but we want to rise to the occasion and find the right person to make it happen. Our ideal candidate has superb professionalism, 2+ years of hands on horticulture/fine gardening experience, and experience running a crew of 1-3 other gardeners. College degree preferred but not required.
This role has potential to expand into a GM position with higher pay for the right candidate.
What is the difference between a landscaping company and a fine gardening company? Landscaping companies focus on 'big picture' property maintenance - mowing the lawn, brush removal, hardscaping, and basic garden management. Alternatively, Fine Gardening companies focus exclusively on garden management, often working alongside landscapers to execute skilled technical work, elaborate design projects, and detailed maintenance beyond the scope of your average yard crew. Our motto puts it best: "Knowledgable gardening, delivered with care"
Responsibilities
- Manage a crew on residential job sites, ensuring pristine results in a timely manner
- Drive crew members to and from job sites most days (can be a shared responsibility but foreman needs to be able to drive and have a clean record)
- Select and load tools needed to perform tasks on work orders for day
- Teach and train other crew members to further develop their horticultural knowledge and skill
- Complete paperwork tracking time and materials used for each job each day
- Execute detailed garden maintenance consistently, exhibiting proper horticultural techniques, such as: pruning roses, weeding undesirables while leaving self-sowed perennial seedlings, selective de-budding to maximize bloom/fruit performance
- Monitor residential gardens for disease, pests, and nutrient deficiencies; report issues and implement remedies as necessary
- Install annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees with proper planting technique
- Operate and maintain hand and power tools (mainly blowers; occasionally hedge-trimmers, weed whackers, and chainsaws)
- Track time spent and tasks completed at each job site
- Represent GFG professionally to our clients and vendors
Qualifications
- High School Education (required)
- Coursework or education in horticulture, plant science, or related field (preferred)
- Management experience (strongly preferred)
- Ability to identify common garden plants
- Knowledge of proper pruning techniques
- Strong attention to detail and pride in quality work
- Ability to perform physical outdoor work in all weather conditions
- Ability to lift 40–50 lbs and work on hands and knees for extended periods
- Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license
- Ability to work independently and stay productive without constant supervision
- Familiarity with garden tools and small equipment
Details
- 8 am start time, 4-6 pm end time depending on the day and your availability
- Monday-Friday with occasional weekend overtime opportunities
- The nature of this work rotates as the seasons change. With some exceptions, you can expect three phases of work each year: Edging and mulching beds in April and May; weeding and deadheading from June-September; and finally, cutbacks and cleanups in October and November. Renovations and garden installations are done throughout the year to give our brains and bodies a break when we need a change in routine! :)
