Summary
Kent Power Gas Laborers support gas line crews and equipment operators in the construction, maintenance, and restoration of gas infrastructure. This role performs hands-on field work and assists across all phases of gas line construction and site restoration.
Essential Functions
- Operate hand and power tools such as shovels, rakes, wrenches, drills, hammers, tampers, and paving breakers.
- Assist with the loading, unloading, transport, and operation of construction equipment, including boring, digging, and backfilling machinery.
- Load, unload, and transport construction materials and supplies.
- Perform minor equipment maintenance, including fluid checks, lubrication, wiper replacement, and general inspections.
- Hand-excavate around underground utilities and facilities.
- Perform site restoration following construction, including concrete, asphalt, landscaping, and surface repairs.
- Dig, trim, and maintain trenches and ditches; pump water as needed.
- Assist with building manholes, headwalls, and other structures related to gas distribution lines.
- Install, remove, activate, or deactivate residential gas meters (up to 800 c meters with 1½” connections); purge lines and light pilots in support of construction activities.
- Perform utility staking and locating for hand excavation purposes (excluding second- and third-party locating).
- Cut, thread, fuse, assemble, and install fuel line piping, including mechanical joints, plastic pipe, and CAD welding.
- Assist in pipe, duct, and cable distribution; lowering and installing pipe and duct; and removal of skids.
- Provide support for traffic control and occasional incidental truck driving.
- Assist welders and support welding operations as directed.
- Help clean, wrap, coat, and prepare pipe after welding and prior to installation, including work performed in the yard.
- Assist with demolition, removal, and conditioning of old pipe.
- Participate in general labor activities supporting overall job site operations.
- Actively support and follow all Kent Power safety initiatives, operational processes, and company programs.
Preferred Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED.
- Prior experience using hand and power tools in a construction or utility environment.
- Experience with hard surface restoration (concrete, sidewalks, parking lots).
- Experience with soft surface restoration, including landscaping and lawn repair.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required gas operator qualifications and certifications.
