Job Title: General Accountant - Contracting Company
Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented General Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will have 5-8 years of accounting experience, particularly within the contracting or construction industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing financial transactions, preparing reports, ensuring compliance with tax and regulatory requirements, and supporting the overall financial operations of the company.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting & Analysis:
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (balance sheet, profit & loss statement) for management review.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial reports and assist in preparing financial statements in compliance with local regulations and accounting standards.
- Perform financial analysis and provide insights into cost control, profitability, and overall financial performance.
- Project Accounting & Contract Management:
- Manage project accounting, ensuring accurate tracking of costs, progress payments, and billing according to contract terms.
- Ensure that all project-related financial data is recorded accurately, including contract variations, claims, and progress billing.
- Coordinate with project managers to track and reconcile project costs and revenues.
- General Ledger Management:
- Maintain and update the general ledger, ensuring proper posting of financial transactions, accurate account coding, and reconciliation of all accounts.
- Conduct regular reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Accounts Payable & Receivable:
- Oversee and manage accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) functions, ensuring all invoices are processed on time, and collections are handled efficiently.
- Monitor cash flow and ensure timely payments to suppliers and contractors.
- Work closely with vendors and customers to resolve billing issues and discrepancies.
- Payroll and Tax Compliance:
- Assist with payroll processing and ensure that wages, overtime, and deductions are calculated correctly and paid on time.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations (including VAT, WHT, and other local taxes) and assist in preparing tax returns and reports.
- Handle monthly, quarterly, and year-end tax filings.
- Cash Flow Management:
- Monitor cash flow, ensuring sufficient liquidity for operational needs and project requirements.
- Assist in cash forecasting and liquidity management.
- Internal Controls & Audit Support:
- Ensure compliance with internal financial controls and accounting policies.
- Support both internal and external auditors during audits and provide required financial documentation.
- Cost Control & Budgeting:
- Participate in preparing annual budgets and forecasts for the company and projects.
- Monitor and control costs, providing regular analysis of variances between actual and budgeted amounts.
- Financial Documentation & Reporting:
- Prepare and submit financial reports for management, stakeholders, and regulatory authorities on time.
- Maintain proper filing and documentation of all accounting and financial records.
Requirements:
- Experience:
- 5-8 years of experience in accounting, with at least 3 years in the contracting or construction industry.
- Strong understanding of project-based accounting, including contract management and progress billing.
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Professional certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA, CMA) is a plus.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and local regulations (e.g., VAT, WHT).
- Proficiency in accounting software ( SAP, Preferred ).
- Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and data analysis.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Language:
- Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required.
- Knowledge of additional languages is an advantage.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a senior accounting or supervisory role within the contracting/construction industry.
- Knowledge of local tax laws, including VAT and withholding tax.
- Experience with ERP software implementation or upgrades.

Pay: AED5,000.00 - AED6,000.00 per month
