General Assistant (Cleaner)

The cleaning assistant carries out a series of trained manual tasks, according to a schedule and SOPs, that help maintain satisfactory hygiene standards for the business.

Accountabilities

The accountabilities have been divided into Plan-Deploy-Lead-Execute to enable:

Maximising the Value added and essential activities across roles

Identification of roles whose activities correspond to multiple parts of the value chain

Reduction in the level of complexity for roles whose focus is on execution of the processes

Ensure aligned accountabilities across similar roles

Plan

Accountabilities related to preparation/scheduling of work or actions which need to be completed. Reviewing and reporting performance.

Deploy

Accountabilities related to placement /allocation of resources (i.e. human and/or equipment) required for planning/ leading the deployment processes.

Lead

Accountabilities connected to managing the execution of the work and ensuring adequate performance levels to ensure the work gets done on time, to quality and safety standards and within cost.

Execute

Takes direction from the cleaning supervisor in regards work duty schedule, and performs the cleaning activities according to SOP and timelines

Uses appropriate cleaning chemicals, protective clothing and cleaning equipment as per the SOP

Inspects the areas under his direct responsibility and ensures the areas and equipment is maintained in the hygienic state as laid out in the SOP and 5s standards

Adheres to cleaning equipment demarcation protocols, and maintains a structured approach to duties

Maintains written records of completion of cleaning activities as and when directed by cleaning supervisor

Is responsible for the personal safety of himself and others in the area, and takes the appropriate actions as necessary to meet the safety procedures

Highlights to the cleaning supervisor issues that are relevant, and influence cleaning schedules, chemicals appropriate for the application, PPE or adherence to cleaning schedules

Acts in a professional manner at all times, especially when working in the environment of others, or when in the presence of the customers

Qualifications/ Skills/ Experience / Knowledge

School leavers certificate

Good understanding of verbal English, reasonable written skills expected

2 years previous housekeeping experience, or working as part of a cleaning team

Fit, and able to work in hot environment under pressure

Able to demonstrate previous experience of working according to SOPs or cleaning cards
