FriendFinder Networks (FFN) is a leading internet company specializing in online dating, adult
entertainment, and social networking services. Founded in 1996, FFN has developed a diverse portfolio
of websites catering to various interests and communities.

Position Overview:
The General Counsel serves as the company’s chief legal advisor and plays a key strategic role in
ensuring the company operates within the bounds of law, regulation, and best practices. The ideal
candidate will have experience in media, digital platforms, intellectual property, content regulation, risk
management and the unique challenges of the adult content industry.

Key Responsibilities

Corporate Governance & Executive Counsel

  • Advise the CEO, Board, and executives on governance, fiduciary duties, and U.S./international
    corporate law.
  • Manage global subsidiaries, entity simplification, and Public Benefit Corporation compliance
    initiatives.
  • Draft and review board resolutions, consents, officer certifications, and governance disclosures.

Employment Law & HR Collaboration

  • Partner with HR on employment law, independent contractor issues, global workforce
    compliance, executive compensation, and policy development.
  • Oversee workplace investigations, employee disputes, and compliance training programs.

Regulatory & Compliance Oversight

  • Ensure compliance with global privacy regimes (GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, LGPD, PIPL, etc.), data
    security, and regulator inquiries.
  • Direct KYC, KYB, AML, OFAC, and anti-fraud programs across affiliates and payment systems.
  • Oversee compliance with 18 U.S.C. § 2257 recordkeeping, age verification standards, and adult
    industry obligations.
  • Monitor credit card association rules, PCI-DSS, merchant banking regulations, and evolving
    fintech standards.

UI/UX Legal Compliance & Compliance by Design

  • Review and develop legally compliant user interfaces and experiences for global consumer-
    facing services, including onboarding, consent flows, privacy notices, and payments.
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to embed legal requirements directly into code
    and systems (“compliance by design”).
  • Evaluate and improve UX for transparency, accessibility, and defensibility in regulatory
    environments.

Legal Technology & AI Governance

  • Implement legal tech solutions for contract lifecycle management, document automation, compliance reporting, and subpoena response workflows.
  • Set company-wide policies on the responsible use of AI, aligned with global AI regulations.
  • Partner with engineering to design AI-driven compliance tools, fraud detection systems, and
    automated legal processes.

Contracts & Commercial Transactions

  • Draft, negotiate, and manage agreements across licensing, SaaS, outsourcing, affiliate,
    influencer, marketing, advertising, sponsorship, and vendor categories.
  • Oversee terms of service, privacy policies, and affiliate agreements across global platforms.
  • Support joint ventures, asset sales, financing arrangements, and outsourcing initiatives.

M&A, Corporate Transactions & Auditor Relations

  • Lead legal due diligence, structuring, and negotiations for mergers, acquisitions, buyouts, and
    joint ventures.
  • Manage integration of acquired assets and entities into FFN’s compliance and governance
    framework.
  • Collaborate with auditors on risk assessments, financial disclosures, and regulatory audits.

Litigation, Arbitration & Investigations

  • Direct global litigation, arbitration, and regulatory defense strategies.
  • Oversee high-stakes disputes involving IP, contract claims, fraud, employment, and consumer
    protection.
  • Conduct and manage internal investigations involving fraud, compliance breaches, and
    misconduct.
  • Coordinate responses to subpoenas, regulator requests, and law enforcement inquiries.

Content, IP & Data Security

  • Protect global IP portfolio: trademarks, copyrights, patents, and domains.
  • Lead DMCA compliance, takedown processes, and safe harbor defenses.
  • Manage content licensing agreements for professional and user-generated content.
  • Partner with engineering and security teams on data security by design, breach responses, and
    ongoing compliance.

Affiliate, Marketing & Influencer Compliance

  • Oversee affiliate program compliance, fraud controls, and advertising regulations (FTC, EU,
    global).
  • Draft and negotiate influencer, marketing, and sponsorship agreements.
  • Ensure compliance in advertising campaigns, AI-driven marketing, and content moderation
    tools.

Qualifications

  • J.D. with strong academic credentials; licensed in California (preferred) or another U.S.
    jurisdiction.
  • 15+ years of progressive legal experience, including 7+ years in a senior leadership role (GC,
    Deputy GC, or equivalent) at a global technology, fintech, or consumer-facing web services
    company.
  • Expertise in:
    o Employment law and HR compliance
    o Privacy and data protection (GDPR, CCPA, etc.)
    o AML, KYC, KYB, OFAC, and anti-fraud frameworks
    o 18 U.S.C. § 2257, Internet and e-commerce law, user generated content compliance,
    FTC compliance, age verification law, and adult industry regulatory compliance
    o Fintech regulations, merchant banking, and PCI-DSS
    o IP law, DMCA, licensing, and digital rights management
    o M&A, corporate transactions, and governance
    o Corporate investigations, litigation strategy and management, and regulatory interfacing
  • Experience designing and reviewing UI/UX for legal compliance in global web platforms.
  • Familiarity with legal compliance by code design and ability to collaborate at a technical level
    with engineers.
  • Robust knowledge of internet and web technologies; programming skills are a strong plus.
  • Demonstrated success implementing legal tech and AI policy frameworks.
  • Exceptional negotiation, drafting, and leadership skills; strong balance of risk and business
    strategy.

Salary Range:

$350,000 to $400,000
