Open Door Community Health Centers is seeking a compassionate and mission-driven General Dentist to join our innovative Mobile Dental Outreach Van team serving communities throughout beautiful Humboldt County, California. This is a unique opportunity to bring high-quality dental care directly to some of the region’s most underserved and vulnerable populations.

About the Role

As a key member of our mobile care team, the Mobile Dentist provides comprehensive oral health services — exams, preventive care, restorations, extractions, and patient education — in collaboration with hygienists, dental assistants, and outreach staff. You will work with patients of all ages, assessing needs, providing evidence-based care, and promoting oral health as an essential part of overall wellbeing.

Open Door’s mobile dental program partners closely with schools, shelters, community centers, and public health initiatives to ensure access to care across our rural region. If you are passionate about community dentistry and thrive in a hands-on, flexible environment that meets patients where they are, this position is for you.

What You’ll Do

  • Deliver preventive, diagnostic, and restorative dental services from our fully equipped mobile dental van.
  • Provide compassionate, patient-centered care to diverse and underserved populations.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to connect patients with medical, behavioral, and community resources.
  • Educate patients on oral health and preventive practices.
  • Participate in quality improvement, continuing education, and community outreach events.

Qualifications

  • DDS or DMD from an accredited dental school (residency training preferred).
    • J1, TN, and H1-B Visa sponsorship (CAP Exempt)
  • Current California dental license, DEA, and CPR certification required (or ability to obtain).
  • Experience or strong interest in community dentistry, public health, or working with underserved populations.
  • Commitment to Open Door’s mission and values of compassion, respect, and equitable access to care.

Why You’ll Love Living Here

Humboldt County is a truly special place — a coastal haven where redwoods meet the Pacific Ocean. Residents enjoy a mild climate, scenic hiking and kayaking, vibrant arts, and a strong sense of community. With a lower cost of living than much of California, it’s an ideal location for those who value work-life balance, outdoor adventure, and meaningful service.

You’ll live and work among people who care deeply about their neighbors and their environment, in a region known for its natural beauty, small-town charm, and progressive spirit.
