General Duty Medical Officer

TIMINGS:8AM-2PM:2PM-8PM;8PM-8AM

Assess and monitor antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal patients.

Perform initial evaluation of patients presenting with:

Labour pains

Bleeding per vaginum

Reduced fetal movements

PROM / leaking

Hypertensive symptoms

Monitor labour progress using partograph.

Conduct normal vaginal deliveries (as per hospital policy and competency).

Assist consultant during instrumental deliveries or cesarean sections.

Identify high-risk situations early and inform consultant immediately.

2. Emergency Management

Provide immediate stabilization in obstetric emergencies:

Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH)

Eclampsia / severe preeclampsia

Fetal distress

Preterm labour

Shock or sepsis

Initiate emergency protocols before consultant arrival.

Coordinate with anesthesia, nursing, and neonatal team.

3. Maternal Monitoring

Review maternal vitals regularly.

Assess pain, bleeding, uterine tone, and recovery post-delivery.

Monitor postoperative mothers (C-section cases).

Prescribe routine medications as per protocol.

4. Neonatal Care

Attend deliveries and perform immediate newborn assessment.

Conduct basic neonatal resuscitation when required.

Ensure thermal care, APGAR scoring, and early breastfeeding initiation.

Stabilize newborn before pediatrician/neonatologist review.

5. Ward Responsibilities

Daily rounds for admitted patients.

Review investigation reports and inform consultant of abnormalities.

Address patient complaints and clinical concerns.

Ensure discharge readiness and documentation.

6. Documentation & Legal Responsibilities

Maintain accurate medical records:

Admission notes

Labour notes

Delivery records

Progress notes

Complete medico-legal documentation when required.

Ensure consent forms are properly filled.

7. Coordination & Communication

Maintain constant communication with:

Consultant obstetrician

Nursing staff

NICU/pediatric team

Inform consultants early about clinical changes.

Counsel patients and families regarding routine updates (within scope).

8. Infection Control & Protocol Compliance

Follow hospital infection control practices.

Ensure aseptic techniques in labour room.

Adhere to biomedical waste management protocols.

9. Support for Holistic Maternity Care (Important for your Vidhai model)

Support natural birth practices under supervision.

Encourage mobility, breathing techniques, and labour comfort measures.

Promote early skin-to-skin contact and breastfeeding.

Respect birth plans unless medically contraindicated.

Qualifications

MBBS (mandatory)

Valid Medical Council Registration

BLS & Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification preferred

Experience in obstetrics posting preferred (1–2 years)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹35,000.00 - ₹40,000.00 per month
