About Youth Opportunity & Memphis Youth Academy

Youth Opportunity is a nationally recognized leader in residential and behavioral health treatment for at‑risk youth. Harpeth Primary Assessment Center in Nashville, Tennessee is a secure, 24‑bed assessment center providing trauma‑informed care to girls ages 10 to 17. This temporary program combines structured clinical assessment, individualized support planning, and daily therapeutic services in a highly supportive and structured environment.

Youth typically remain in care for about 30 days, during which they receive intake, multidisciplinary evaluation, education, independent living and social skills training, and initial mental health stabilization. Programming occurs in small group units designed to support accurate placement recommendations, emotional safety, and family engagement while preparing youth for the next phase of care.


About the Role

We are seeking a passionate General Education Teacher to provide individualized instruction and support to help youth succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. This role is essential to improving outcomes for students with complex needs through collaboration, structured programming, and a trauma-informed approach.

Key Responsibilities

  • Instruct students to build academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills

  • Develop and deliver lesson plans aligned with individualized needs and IEPs

  • Administer developmental and academic assessments

  • Adapt classroom materials and lessons for diverse learners

  • Monitor and assess student progress, providing feedback to teams and caregivers

  • Counsel students on academic and behavioral challenges

  • Collaborate with teachers, staff, foster parents, and outside resources

  • Document grades, attendance, behavior logs, and other required reports

  • Support the prevention of client abuse through vigilance and policy adherence

  • Report incidents promptly to ensure safety and compliance

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to pass background checks

  • Valid teaching license

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree or Special Education certification

  • 3+ years teaching experience with students with behavioral, developmental, or intellectual disabilities

  • First Aid, CPR, and crisis prevention training (or willingness to obtain)

Physical Demands

  • Must be in good physical health and emotionally stable

  • Able to actively engage with youth, participate in physical interventions, and transport youth or staff as needed

  • Must be free of communicable diseases as defined by the state

  • Must pass evaluation of physical techniques and certification exams
