General LAB Support Hardware Engineer

Microsoft is seeking a highly qualified candidate to join the team as a General LAB Support Hardware Engineer. As a General LAB Support Hardware Engineer within the Azure SES and Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) team, you will support innovative projects and apply your expertise in a fast paced & technically driven environment. You will work with a diverse set of teams supporting first and third-party designs in an R&D Lab environment, ensuring that lab operations are optimized and tuned to perform in a complex environment while continuing to scale space, capacity, and capability.

Responsibilities

  • Support a variety of project needs such as hardware, racks, networks, infrastructure, racking systems, and power distribution.
  • Support server racks, network connections, and infrastructure problems, maintenance, and management. (SharePoint, VMs, scripts).
  • Train and guide teams on R&D programs and processes.
  • Support OS updates, Firmware upgrades (in-band or out-of-band)
  • Support project execution by checking and testing equipment and configurations according to program requirements.
  • Support liquid cooling solutions and monitoring
  • Solve and support projects (OU creation / Group Policy / MECM / Image builds / Maintenance Automation / Monitoring Automation, Debug and Solutions.
  • Work to improve and meet system operation, capacity, and new capability needs.
  • Join and lead meetings with project and Lab Support teams.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in Technical operations related to Server System architecture that includes server functionality, network requirements and management, mechanical and electrical specification application, and software & firmware application in engineering labs or datacenter environments and/or data center operations.
Other Requirements
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Rack and stack of servers and kit to cabinets.
  • Physical installation and/or removal of equipment within the Data Center or Intermediary Data Facilities.
  • Experience Liquid loop preparing and assembly
  • Background with system level qualification, validation, I/O interconnect, PCIE high speed data switches.
  • Solve and support projects (OU creation / Group Policy / MECM / Image builds / Maintenance Automation / Monitoring Automation, Debug and Solutions.
  • Experience with VM manipulation and PowerShell scripting
  • Experience with lab test equipment setups for signal measurement using oscilloscopes and the capability to read and interpret schematic diagrams.
  • Good written and verbal communication & organization skills.
  • Ability to work well independently and on a team. A collaborative spirit and a growth mindset.
  • Customer and results oriented with attention to security, quality, safety, and details.
  • Motivated to continuously learn and improve existing solutions.
Hardware Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
