General Laborer - Non-CDL Position

Position Overview: Under direct supervision of the Lead Supervisor or Crew Leader, the General Laborer – Non CDL performs general labor in the provision of public services including maintenance and repair of the City’s streets, parks, sanitary and storm sewer systems, public facilities/properties and various duties in refuse collection. The General Laborer also performs miscellaneous duties as needed or assigned. The General Laborer operates and utilizes City vehicles and equipment including, but not limited to, various hand and power tools, zero turn mowers, pickup trucks, utility vehicles, and construction equipment. The General Laborer performs work in a variety of settings involving occasional exposure to inclement weather, confined spaces, excessive temperatures and humidity, dust, dirt and fumes.

Duties:

1. Sewer Division 0% - 100% Depends on Division Need

• Operates and maintains equipment and vehicles including but not limited to plumbing and sewer equipment*
• Loads truck with various equipment and tools, transports employees, equipment and materials to job site*

· Inspects equipment and tools to ensure equipment is in safe and proper condition; repairs or replaces equipment as needed*

• Assists in the inspection, cleaning, testing, repair, and general maintenance of storm and sanitary sewer lines.*
• Operates various equipment including sewer snake, air compressor, jackhammer, power and plumbing tools*

· Operates pickup and 1-ton trucks and other equipment needed to remove snow*

· Assists in traffic control as needed*

2. Streets Division 0% - 100% Depends on Division Need

· Performs various tasks involved in street and sidewalk repair*

· Cleans, sweeps and removes debris and snow from streets, curbs, walkways, catch basins and accident sites*

· Assists in traffic control*

· Performs various tasks involved in street maintenance*

· Cleans and maintains street cleaning equipment*

· Operates pickup and 1-ton trucks and other equipment needed to remove snow*

3. Refuse Division 0% - 100% Depends on Division Need

· Collects and disposes of refuse, recycling, and yard waste from private properties, businesses, public properties and facilities*

· Maintains and cleans equipment refuse facility and vehicles including but not limited to refuse trucks, semi-trucks and scooters*

· Operates pickup and 1-ton trucks and other equipment needed to remove snow*

4. Parks Division 0% - 100% Depends on Division Need · Performs various grounds maintenance, landscaping, and tree maintenance duties*· Operates and maintains various tools and equipment including but not limited to dump trucks, mowers, landscaping tools, chain saws and chippers*

· Operates pickup and 1-ton trucks and other equipment needed to remove snow*

Additional Miscellaneous Duties (As Directed by Supervisor)

· Performs duties of other department personnel as directed to ensure effective operation of the department*

· Communicates with citizens to answer questions and provide information about City services and department operations*

· Maintains safe and clean work environment*

· Cleans work areas and accident sites as needed*

· Follows safety procedures and guidelines; wears safety equipment and clothing as needed*

· Responds to requests for information and assistance from citizens*

Minimum Qualifications:

· A valid state issued Driver’s License.

· Experience in landscaping or construction preferred.

· High school diploma or GED is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the skills and abilities necessary to perform the job.

· Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.30 - $23.91 per hour
