Heartwood ReSources – General Manager
Are you a hands-on, mission-driven retail leader ready to transform reclaimed materials into community impact? NeighborWorks Umpqua is hiring a General Manager to lead Heartwood ReSources, our nonprofit retail store focused on reclaimed building materials and sustainability.

The General Manager oversees all aspects of Heartwood’s operations—from sales, inventory, and staff supervision to budget management, community engagement, and store innovation. This is a unique opportunity to lead a value-driven retail operation that merges social enterprise with environmental responsibility.

You’ll be responsible for building systems, improving profitability, growing community partnerships, and fostering a culture of accountability, inclusion, and empowerment among staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead day-to-day retail operations: inventory, merchandising, donation intake, and customer experience.
  • Develop and manage budgets, financial performance, and key performance indicators.
  • Supervise and coach store staff, ensuring performance excellence and a healthy workplace culture.
  • Implement and document operational policies and systems.
  • Drive store visibility, revenue, and community impact in alignment with NeighborWorks Umpqua’s mission.
  • Collaborate with organizational departments and represent Heartwood in community spaces.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in retail management or store operations
  • Strong team leadership, supervision, and coaching skills
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, revenue, and inventory systems
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Commitment to inclusion, sustainability, and community well-being
Preferred Qualifications
  • Nonprofit or mission-based retail experience
  • Knowledge of reclaimed building materials, reuse, or deconstruction
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) or culturally responsive customer service experience
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Primarily warehouse/retail setting; frequent lifting/moving of items up to 75 lbs
  • Regular standing, walking, bending, and use of tools and ladders
  • Participation in daily store operations (loading, sorting, floor resets, etc.)
  • Exposure to dust, temperature variation, and warehouse equipment
  • Must have valid driver’s license and clean driving record
