Founded in 2003, Nylawn is a locally owned and operated licensed Landscape Contractor and Hawaii's leader in synthetic turf and playground installation. Operating out of Sand Island, we are the exclusive dealer for Miracle Recreation playground equipment and Synthetic Turf International and Envy Turf. Our company services include sales, installation and maintenance of commercial and residential lawns, putting greens, shades, recreation surfacing and playgrounds throughout the Islands.
We are seeking a highly motivated and organized person to help lead our team and oversee the day-to-day management and installation of playgrounds, recreation equipment, shades and surfacing projects for residential, commercial, and public facilities throughout the Islands. This includes scheduling, inspections, installations, service and all field activities related to the physical construction of the job and any coordinated sub-contractors, organized processes, while keeping track of the big picture. Identifying potential areas of improvement, implementing policies and strategies to improve service, productivity, safety, efficiency levels and building an enjoyable company culture.
Ideal Candidate: The individual MUST have experience in construction and have the experience and ability to manage multiple small construction projects, be a problem solver, a good communicator, well organized, possess exceptional time management, and willing to jump in on jobs to help meet deadlines as needed.
- 3-5 years of construction related experience and project management of upwards of 10-12 people
- Scheduled jobs and managed 2-4 installation teams
- Construction and/or landscape background
- Familiar with installation of synthetic turf / playground equipment
- Knowledge of construction contracts, subcontracts, and the bid process
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to professionally communicate and provide solutions to team
- Highly organized and very detail oriented
- Must have own vehicle, and valid state driver’s license
- Excellent customer service, written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office or Google Docs (Word, Excel).

The General Manager will initially work alongside the crew on job sites for training purposes; to become familiar with our products, installation processes, quality control.

Position responsibilities:
- Lead, manage, train and evaluate 8-12 team members
- Conduct weekly informative employee meetings to brief crews on the schedule for the week, goals for the day, safety protocols, review of previous jobs and identify areas that will improve operations, performance and employee gratification/fulfillment.
- Perform onsite training of products and installation protocol as necessary
- Leads project planning and scheduling, including conducting crew in pre and post job briefings/meetings
- Manage the project schedule throughout the project lifecycle and secure any unique materials and/or equipment required to complete the project.
- Work with management to improve and develop overall company operations and policies
- Develop and oversee operational plans, labor schedules, inventories and maintenance schedules.
- Collaborate closely with management to establish recruiting, training and hiring strategies
- Oversee installation crews and installation progress daily
- Supervise and monitor the daily activities of project teams to ensure compliance with company procedures, policies, safety standards and quality standard
- Promote, monitor and encourage safe working practices.
- Inspire and motivate employees to perform at their best through positive encouragement and incentive initiatives and formulate performance improvement plans
- Engage in continuing education and training for the team
- Individual Crew Members: briefing, performance, training and management
- Interview, select, and train new employees.
- Mentor, evaluate employee work and productivity, and develop employees
- Meet with team members one-on-one to provide continual coaching and evaluation of procedures
- Track and analyze performance indicators, schedule evaluations to develop action plans to improve each crew member's performance.

- Review and know all contract terms, conditions, warranties, budget and execute all obligations associated with the project contract.

- We need someone who will be very “Hands on” that can jump in on the jobsite to help if needed. Do you have any limitations that would prevent you from working with the crew?
- Our crew typically works a 4 day week (M-Th) with Fridays being a catch up, organizing type day. Do you have any limitations in doing the same?
- We do the occasional outer island job. Would you have any limitations to your duties extending outer island?
- This is a very "Hands on" job. Training will be on the job site working along side the crew prepping the ground and installing turf and playground structures. After training, you will be expected to inspect for compliance throughout each project, perform other duties listed and jumping in to help as needed. Are you able and willing to learn this job from protocol experience and show initiative and leadership as you progress? This duration will depend on your ambition, eagerness and ability to learn and comprehend, dedication and efficiency to gradually take on the expectations of the position.
