Job Summary:
A general practitioner doctor provides the principal and continuing medical care for patients and is usually the first contact for patients needing health and medical services. A general practitioner is responsible for performing checkups, diagnosing illnesses, giving recommendations, making a preliminary diagnosis, and referring the patient to a specialist for further assessment or treatment if needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Meet patients who visit their medical practice, making them feel comfortable and asking questions to determine the nature of their visit.
- Conduct examinations and asking further questions to help diagnose their medical condition/or illness.
- Order, perform, and interpret tests and analyzes records, reports, and examination information to diagnose patients’ conditions.
- Order additional medical examinations where necessary, including blood tests, laboratory tests, x-rays and other diagnostic procedures to gain a precise diagnosis.
- Analyse test data or images to inform diagnosis or treatment.
- Prepare and issue medical reports, conducting eye test (visual acuity, colour vision, near vision test).
- Explain procedures and discusses test results or prescribed treatments with patients
- Prescribe medication and correct dosage for patients.
- Diagnose and treat illnesses/ailments.
- Liaise with other healthcare professionals (ex: midwives, pharmacists, health visitors and psychiatrists) as part of multidisciplinary teams.
Qualifications & Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in biology and medical sciences, along with a Doctor of Medicine (MD), is required.
- Proven work experience as a General practitioner or similar role.
- Exceptional attention to detail to ensure patients receive proper care.
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose, treat, and manage simple and complex medical issues.
- Demonstrated ability to obtain medical clearance authorisations from insurance providers.
